Exclamation SERVICE 4WD Light

Hi,

It has recently got cold again here in Alberta and while adjusting the QL, the Service 4WD light came on. It stayed on until I turned off the vehicle, went to the gym, and then started it again after. The light went off and everything seemed fine. It then came on again when I was entering my parkade. Again I turned off the vehicle, turned it on again and the light went off.

This is the third time this has happened with the first time occurring when it was -18 celsius a few weeks ago.

Is this something I should worry about? The light does not come on in milder weather, but it seems as if it's throwing a code when the weather is cold or something and when the vehicle is shut off and turned on again, it resets itself and everything seems okay.

When the light is on, the traction control 'off' light comes on as well, like when you are in sport mode.

I have no idea...some insight would be appreciated.

Re: SERVICE 4WD Light

Have the dealer look at it. I have BIG problems with the 4WD system, but it does not sound as if ours are related.

What happened to you after your light came on?

Thanks, I checked it out. I never had the service QL light yet, but maybe that's next. I searched other sites and the SERVICE 4WD light seems to occur on a lot of jeeps, and it simply is fixed with a reflash. I hope that's all I need if the light keeps returning.

How is your jeep running now?

Re: SERVICE 4WD Light

Still the same. Going in tomorrow again for "Head Office" to inspect it. Getting close to demanding a replacement as it has been a month now that it is not off road capable at all.

Re: SERVICE 4WD Light

Anyone know about this fault? They did the TSB update on the traction control but every other day my Service 4WD light comes on and so does the traction control off light. My vehicle basically goes until RWD and it becomes unsafe with all of the snow around. When I turn it off and on again it resets and the lights turn off and my vehicle is back to normal. It is random and seems like a sensor fault.

I can't replicate it at the dealership because the code goes off once the vehicle turns off and on again and all is fine. They hooked it up to a computer and found no codes. Every time the light comes on is when I'm unable to go to the dealership. I don't know what to do.

Wait for the service light to come on and drive to the dealership and leave the engine running while in the service bay?

That's exactly what I would do.

Re: SERVICE 4WD Light

It should throw a code that's stored when you see the light. They should be able to pull it off with a scanner at the dealer.

Re: SERVICE 4WD Light

It doesn't. Dealer told me to drive it in without turning off the car so the service light stays on.

That's weird to have no code what stays around for 200 miles or so.

Smile Re: SERVICE 4WD Light

Problem solved.

It was the rear diff solenoid connector clip that wasn't secured.

Go figure...sounds lame to me, but that's what they said.
