Services

I have a 2011 2wd 5.7L GC. I don't take it to the dealer ever! I am reading on here people getting transmission updates and performing other services to their Jeep. My Jeep is running fine, but I just looked at the service schedules for the first time the other day due to it approaching 90k. All I have ever had to do to it was change the engine oil and change the spark plugs, but now I'm looking at the diff and the trans oil and wondering when I should change it and if I need to update any computer parts or anything else for that fact? Help!

John

The OM should spec out the change schedule for the other fluids, based on your driving. Can't think of why any firmware would need to be updated in conjunction with this, but you might be denying yourself a bit better ride by not staying reasonably current with firmware in the various controllers.

Unless you live 300 miles from civilization and there is only one dealer in the area, there may actually be decent ones willing to work with you... kinda like dentists.

Re: Services

Called the dealer and they said that they don't know if any computer updates are available until I give them $129 to scan it and see. If there is an update needed it will be an additional $100 to install! To change rear diff oil, min 2 hour job so $260 in just labor! I did not even ask about the transmission fluid! I will be braving these on my own with you tube.

At 90K, if it were my truck, I'd definitely be changing the fluids..
As for the firmware updates, if nothing in particular is bothering you, and nothing here jumps out at you as bothering you, if it ain't broke...

Re: Services

Ok, so I'm now looking at the oils and stuff I might need. I have a question, do I need to replace the transmission filter? And do I refill the trans thru the dip stick tube.

Re: Services

honestly.. I would NOT go to the dealer for this work, but instead find a good local garage to do it. (Not a chain like monroe muffler either). You could probably save almost 1/2 the cost. For software updates, you might need to go to the dealer, but a trans fluid change/filter and rear diff oil is cake work for any good garage.

Now, if you check and most are charging close to the same price.. then go to the dealer of course.
