It's not just about the look. WK2s in Korea are equipted with DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting such as digital TV) and in order to cover the frequency range of DMB other than radios, it needs shark fin type antenna.
I think that the rubber antenna is silly as it will foul on many things that may be carried on the roof rails. The Sharkfin will be my first mod, as we nearly ripped our SUV antenna off with a table we were taking on the roof.
The first time I saw a WK2 with the stock antenna, I thought it had an erection. One of the first things I did was install the shark fin. Looks factory and I notice very little difference in reception.
you guys with shark fin antennas .... how has your reception been? I don't love the look of the factory setup, but i will admit that this car has the best AM radio reception of any car i've owned in the last few years - which i don't want to mess with.
And I will say the factory antenna looks good, but is TERRIBLE when you're using a ski rack. I can see why Jeep didn't include cross rails on WK2...loading anything on the roof is impossible with the factory antenna.
I'm seriously considering the shark fin...so are there any reception issues?
A low profile antenna is a must for me. I have a older thule cargo box that needs to be filled with 10 bags of my daughters and wifes stuff......And thats one overnight. Ill just rent a bus for a weekend trip.
