shift points

I have 2011 with penstar v6 and it seems the shift points are high. for example shifting from first to second gear it shifts at 3500, that just seems high. when driving 25 mph and lower it feels like its it should have shifted into second gear but stays in first. I just got the truck a month ago so maybe I am not use to the 5 speed. Is it normal to shift into second at 3000 + rpms?

Re: shift points

Give it a little more time. It adjusts to your driving style (sorta).

Re: shift points

I have the V6 and it's not uncommon for it to rev up to and past 3k if I'm anything more than delicate with the throttle. It is a small engine in a big vehicle with very high gearing. I think the engine moves the vehicle just fine, it just has to rev from time to time to do so.

You could always unhook the negative terminal from the battery for 5-10 minutes to reset the PCM back to default shift points.

Re: shift points

Also be sure your drivers info in between tech and speedometer shows D for drive. Bumping the shifter to the left will down shift and to the right will up shift.
Overal, the 5 speed tran with the v6 works diff from anything I have driven over the past 30 years. A lot has to do with fuel Econemy.

Re: shift points

thanks for the info I feel better now. yes I did check and its in D lol I just havde a v8 truck for the past 10 yrs so this tourqey v6 is really different for me. my Wife has the jeep liberty with a v6 and drives nothing like this one. This has a very touchy gas and brakes compaired to her liberty and the truck I had.
