Shock clunk finally fixed...

So.. at 4000 miles the clunking was so bad on my 2014 it was making me crazy. the dealer says they can't get replacements they have been backordered for awhile. PLUS.. since my jeep is 6 months old and only has 4000 miles. no loaner from 2 dealers i talked to.. screw chrysler. next car will be a ford..

BUT anyway.. i ended up doing some research and bought some Rancho aftermarket rear shocks for a 2012, since you can't find 2014 parts yet. I had SLS shocks on my jeep. but since i will never tow they wern't needed and i didnt want shocks that cost $400 a pop to replace.. Basically. the 2 shocks were $60 each.. and if you have the SLS shocks you have to change the upper mounts which are part # 68029590AE i got a pair on ebay for $23 a pop.

About 30 minutes to install both sides and pure silence.. no clunks.. no noise.. perfect..

A couple of things though.. at about 2000 miles my right rear SLS shock was doing the minor clunking.. annoying but livable.. at 3500 my left rear started clunking LOUD.. metal on metal BANG.. So when i pulled them out.. the right one was locked up, which is the known issue with these.. but the surpising thing is the left one had all of its oil leaked out. it was all over the suspension and dripping down the shock. so basically it wasn't absorbing, just bouncing. Horrible design..

I just wanted to post this for anyone that just wants to end that stupid issue..

P.S. Monroe and Rancho make repalcement shocks.. i would get the monroes next time. i went rancho cause they were a tiny bit cheaper.. BUT they do ride a little harsher.. i will probably switch to the monroes in the future..

Re: Shock clunk finally fixed...

That's good to know. I didn't know there were any aftermarket shocks for the WK2. Do you notice any rear sag now? I thought someone stated the rear springs are weaker on the SLS vehicles?

Re: Shock clunk finally fixed...

Sorry for the late response... I havn't noticed any sag at all... here is a pic i took about 2 mins ago...

What i will say is that if anyone does change the rear shocks to aftermarket.. get the monroes. The ranchos ride like bricks. To the point its annoying..

BTW.. still have random clunks.. in the rear and front. but different now.. not the shocks. 5000 miles... my GF is going to look at kia sportages this weekend and i am considering trading in. Her last kia has 183k miles with zero issues.. those koreans know their stuff
