Re: Shudder--Do all GC's have it?

There's a redesigned axle isolator that will be available in January. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that as soon as these become available there will be a TSB released for this problem. Chrysler may not want to put it's dealers into that position of saying we know what will fix it, but it'll be months until we can get the part.

I had talked to someone at a dealer and he said exactly it felt like his knees where rattling apart...

LOL!

It's much more subtle than that...like a ballerina farting in the passenger seat and definately not a "bone shaking" experience

Re: Shudder--Do all GC's have it?

The "front driveshaft wobbling a little bit" does not sound right. The driveshaft should not wobble at all; if it did we'd be eating pinion bearings and CV joints in short order. That said, an unbalanced driveshaft will igve you some serious shudder and should not go unchecked. I think people are reacting to MDS activation and the effect varies amongst vehicles. I listened/felt for it on a trip today.

Having just got home from a 220-mile highway trip I could feel the MDS at 45mph but I really had to listen for it and hardly felt it when I focused on it. I only noticed it on a brand new smooth, quiet stretch of blacktop highway. MDS in activate mode does kind of sound (very mild in mine) like a 4cyl engine in a tall gear when 40-45mph with BARELY PERCEPTIBLE vibrtation, but no shuddering. My passengers never noticed anything when I asked them and, like I said, I really had to concentrate to notice a sound change and try to feel the very faint 4cly mode rumble. If I didn't read this thread I would have not noticed under normal driving.

So maybe this is just a matter of the MDS kicking in too early, before the Jeep has enough momentum to sustain a smooth ride with only 4 cylinders....

Re: Shudder--Do all GC's have it?

I will have to concentrate more closely to see if I hear or feel anything

the shudder issue we all complain about is not the same as the little disturbance occasionally caused by the MDS.
if you had it, you'd be acutely aware of it, and probably be whining about it with the rest of us.

That is correct! I know what others are talking about with the slight CONSTANT vibration/noise from MDS mode. That is a common characteristic, and is not what we are talking about. The shudder is a sensation like the truck is Jerking intermittantly when put under slight load most commonly felt between 35-45 MPH. It feels like you are driving with a wheel out of balance. The only other way to describe it would be picturing pulling a large trailer of water and as it is sloshing around the truck gets pulled and pushed with it.

Re: Shudder--Do all GC's have it?

I can't tell if it's a shudder or rough pavement.

Check your tire pressure if the ride seems excessively rough, especially on concrete roads and bridges.

5 or 6 PSI on the 20's makes a huge difference, and mine came from the dealer overinflated.
