Re: Sloshing sound from under the jeep

I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee overland V/6 6 months old, after washing the vehicle once i heard the slushing sound , I don't believe its the gas in the tank. the sound never accured until I wash the vehicle using a home type pressure washer, the slusing finally went a way. I did mentiom it to the dealer no responce from them on any complaints from other jeep owners.. I haven't heard it since we took it on a 600 mile trip. but the slusing was their when the brakes were applied . any body else heard the mystery sound. Maggie

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Update on sloshing sound in 2011 Overland:
The dealer service department confirmed I had 3-5 gallons of water trapped beneath the floorboards- so much so that the service manager asked if I had driven through a lake. The intrusion has been traced (they think) to a spot beneath the spare tire cavity; I am going to see the vehicle on Monday and will post an update on what info I receive. IF this is an engineering defect, this thread may be valuable to Jeep/ Chrysler if they put out a recall or maintenance inspection. In my case, I am pretty sure that the sloshing began after the first time at a particular cars wash.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Yes sloshing began after I washed the jeep and rinsed it with a electric home pressure washer. What dealer did you take your jeep to so i can tell my dealer what was found. I am sure this is going to happen again. thanks maggie

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Heard sloshing noticed wet carpet on drivers side 2011 grand Cherokee. Very large cavities under the plastic subloor. The problem is the drain fitting for the ac condensate that is supposed to snap into the sidewall of the floorpan to the right of the gas pedal. On the transmission hump. Bad design. If it jars loose even 1/16 of an each the condensate runs down into the cavities below the plastic floorboard below the carpet. At least 5 gallons of water collect here. There are two areas and only one has plugs. They are plastic and glued in place. The only way to fix this is removal of the driver seat carpet and plastic subfloor. Big job. The plugs can be removed then but it's a bad idea. They are not designed to be reinstalled, new plugs with special adhesive are required. They need to redisign the drain plug fitting so it won't come loose. Mine was collecting water for two years. Signs if rust etc. Carpet padding wax soaked and smelled from mildew. Dealer refused to replace the driver section carpet and chryler agreed. Somehow they think drying out the carpet that is stained with rust marks will magically take away the mold smell and spores. First problem with the car. Very disappointed with chrysler. Hope they redesign this fitting and issue a repair directive to the dealers. Dealer admitted he has seen at least 3 other similar cars.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I bought a 2012 JGC Laredo. Started hearing the sloshing sound about 2 months ago until this week when I thought I was at the beach from hearing the sound of the water flowing from the front driver seat to the backseat. Discarded the sunroof drains and gas tank when i drove on an incline and noticed water marks on the carpet. Saw in this forum some people mentioning the AC condensate drain. That was the exact problem. The drain is located on the center console underneath the carpet by the gear shifter, to the right of the gas pedal. The drain had come loose and leaked every time the AC was being used. The problem is that the tip of the drain hose in the plug broke or came loose and the end of it just is not long enough for the water to fall properly and causing some of it to leak back into the floorboard. To fix this, I used a smaller piece of rubber hose that would fit snug to the end of the plastic drain plug and superglued it in place, effectively extending the end of the plug. Put the plug back in place. Now the water should fall off properly and not leak back into the floorboard. Used the vehicle for some days now and no sign of water coming in again. Had to use a manual pump and drained about 5 gallons of water, removed the driver seat, side plastic board on the gear shifter, moved some carpet. Took me about 4 hours of work. Hope this helps everyone.

Heres a picture of the location of the drain:

The drain plug and some water droplets:

Picture of the plug which can be removed from the drain hose.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Just wondering if anyone knows if this design problem has been rectified in '13 GC, or is it the same as previous models?

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I have the same (water under driver's side floorboard) problem. Just noticed it this weekend after I got a dealer oil change and wash. The Service Mgr listened to it and said he thought he recalled there was a Technical Bulletin issued by Jeep that mentioned that the drain system that takes water from the sun roof down through the chassis of the car and subsequently out of the car. The Tech Bulletin said that part of that system can shift and cause the water to collect in the floorboard. He said the seat and carpet must be removed to access and empty the water. But from this forum, it appears the water can be drained from a plug beneath the car??? The service mgr couldn't (wouldn't) say whether Jeep would cover the cost of repair.
