Yes, the dealerships have been taking out the plugs as their "fix" but this is not acceptable. Did you remove your spare tire? Check that area because a lot of the water collects in there. Those battery compartments can be dry but the water can still be migrating from that spare area and draining out of those open drain plugs.

I took the the jack and spare tire out and it seems dry. I can probably get replacement plugs from the dealership right?

I would try to get them. The problem is that if u are getting that much condensation inside then the water could be draining from the back to the front and out of those drain plugs, but it could be soaking into the carpet like it was in mine. If that is the case, you'll want to address. The removal of the plugs could be masking the problem

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I have a 2011 and this was the first post I have seen in weeks of looking that had a picture and location of the drain. Thank you.

My drain had moved away from the wall and had been leaking into the interior for months (apparently).

The dealership estimated 200 dollars to fix and clearly knew what the cause was. So instead I removed the driver seat, carpet and the plastic cover to gain access to the compartments beneath the driver seat holding the water. I had about 3 gallons of water sloshing around and lots of algae growth... There is a drain plug but it still took awhile to dry out the carpet and clean it thoroughly. The design is really bad and this will be a common issue for anyone. Overall it wasn't hard to fix, just lots of time spent waiting for things to drain/dry.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I have recently purchased a 3.0ltr CRD Grand Cherokee and noticed the sloshing sound as described. It is more apparent when the tank is 3/4 full rather than when 3/4 empty.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Anyone else with a 2014 CRD (mine was built in Nov) having the sloshing issue?

To me, it sounds like it's coming from the gas tank, and it is very noticeable when I park in my garage (backing in). I can hear it for a good 10 seconds once I am out of the car.

I'm going to check all the other possibilities tonight, but either way this is pretty annoying and disappointing.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Ugggghhhhh. I recently traded my mustang for a '12 JGC Laredo (no sunroof) and while it's great in the snow and is much more practical I've had more car trouble in the three months I've had it than in the last five years of driving my mustang.

Started off with a HORRIBLE grinding/clunking that the shop couldn't reproduce (I managed to record the sound though and they still had no ideas) and eventually went away, though they did replace the front axle assembly (diff and all) because it was leaking. Hasn't done it since, but it didn't do it for a couple weeks leading up to the axle swap either.

Now today I stopped on an incline and it rolled forward a bit as I got out (didn't set the parking break) and I heard a ton of liquid moving. My friends were there and I rolled it forward and they heard it, too, and we all thought it was my gas tank (even though I filled up yesterday). I couldn't imagine what else would hold that much fluid but if this thread is any indication, it's a widespread and unaddressed problem with the WK2 design.

I'm going to call my local dealer tomorrow and see what they say. If it really is water building up in the floorboards, the only place it could have come from is car washes or possibly from all the snow. It hasn't exactly been a/c weather.

I just feel sick. I spent a ton more on this vehicle than any previously and I was hoping it would mean quality.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

2014 GC Laredo, 4X4 no sunroof.
I get a sloshing sound that sounds more like water traveling backwards when I take off from a dead stop, But it only does it once in awhile. Cant duplicate it after it does it. Have to wait till it decides to do it again, so far 3 -4 times in the 2 months of ownership. I have checked Battery box and storage under drivers seat which has a plastic liner no water at all, Ive checked under carpet in spare tire area no water at all, , checked behind back seat under carpet at inclined wall lip of rear storage and no wetness at all and no wet carpet anywhere.
I thought it was the gas tank as others have said but wouldnt it do it more often and especially at least twice in a row. Mine did it again this morning and Immediately I tried to get it to do it again with no luck. In fact Ive spent the last couple hours trying everything to get it to make the water traveling sound, and looking for moisture with no luck.
What to try next??

Did you try to pull the little plastic drain plugs from under the jeep? If water is getting inside it often travels to that area. There are 3 or 4 under the driver and passenger sides at the front. I drained about a gallon of water from those after every rainstorm for a year until they found where it was coming in from (hatch area). Pull those and see if any water drains out. If it does, you have some challenges ahead. Good luck!

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Did this noise start after a rain? I am hearing a sloshing sound and I have a wet spot on the drivers side. It rained last week where I am and after the rain stopped the noise appeared.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Yep, it started after rain. The water was coming in from the hatch, collecting in the spare tire area, and once full enough, moving to the front, under the seats and saturating the carpet. Took about 6 months for them to find it. I have since gotten rid of the vehicle because even though the FINALLY found it and fixed the hole in the sheet metal in the hatch (brand new vehicle that came like that from the factory) it still smelled gross and wasn't worth the trouble. I went with a 2014 and although it doesn't have water issues, the whole vehicle vibrates at highway speeds. They say it is normal. Whatever. Done with Grand Chrerokee.
