Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Hello, I have 2015 GC purchased recently. I've started hearing water sloshing today (after a rain/snow over the weekend). When I brake in the parking lot, I can hear it both inside and outside the car although gas tank is full. I will stop by the dealer in the morning. Driver's side and spare tire area seemed to be dry. I could not remove passenger's side battery cover so not sure if there is any water there.

I will be very disappointed if water is leaking to a brand new car.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Service tech confirms that the noise is from gas tank. He mentions that it is the shape of the gas tanks.

Ask for new gas tank. I have my replaced for same reason. I think this is TSB for this problem.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Thanks for the replies.

I mentioned to service tech about TSB for the earlier model. He was aware of it, but did not think that this should apply to these models.

Btw, it is also interesting that noise diminished some since I have less than half a tank gas left now (which is consistent with TSB 14-002-11 - sloshing sound while the fuel tank is between 5/8 to 7/8).

Is it possible that left-over gas tank from earlier model is installed to my car

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I heard this sloshing sound today to with the radio off sounds like it's coming from under the passenger seat. The battery is under there has anyone thought maybe this is the sound? there is water in there.

If it jars loose even 1/16 of an each the condensate runs down into the cavities below the plastic floorboard below the carpet. At least 5 gallons of water collect here. There are two areas and only one has plugs. They are plastic and glued in place. The only way to fix this is removal of the driver seat carpet and plastic subfloor. Big job. The plugs can be removed then but it's a bad idea. They are not designed to be reinstalled, new plugs with special adhesive are required. They need to redisign the drain plug fitting so it won't come loose. Mine was collecting water for two years. Signs if rust etc. Carpet padding wax soaked and smelled from mildew. Dealer refused to replace the driver section carpet and chryler agreed. Somehow they think drying out the carpet that is stained with rust marks will magically take away the mold smell and spores. First problem with the car. Very disappointed with chrysler. Hope they redesign this fitting and issue a repair directive to the dealers. Dealer admitted he has seen at least 3 other similar cars.
Just curious, I have a 2011 JC and have just now discovered the hvac drain issue. I took copies of this forum and the pictures into the dealership and after two days of no response, they finally agreed that the hvac drain was the causing the sloshing and wet carpet on the drivers side. Mine is no longer under warranty, so I'm wondering what you said to Chrysler, etc. to see if I have any change of getting reimbursed for what is obviously a manufactures defect? I'm also concerned about mold, etc. because the dealership is not willing to do anything to the carpet, etc., especially since the warranty has expired. Am I SOL? How is this not a recall issue with it affecting so many cars for so long?!

How do you remove the grey plastic drain plugs? Looks like all sides need to be depressed before you can pull them out. I just don't want to snap them if I can help it.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Just pry it out with a small flat blade screw driver ... then get out of the way. The water gushed out of mine. No more sloshing problem since leaving the plug out under the front passenger seat.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I pulled the front passenger seat drain plugs and no water came out. I'm talking about the one on the driver seat side. its a round, hard grey plastic one. unlike the soft rubber one that can just be pried out.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Never needed to pull that one. If you don't want to pry it out, why not drill it with a 1/16th or 1/8 bit and see if water comes out? You can always seal it with a dab of silicone sealer.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

Not a bad idea. Might try it. Going to the dealership to see if I can buy one of those plugs to see what it looks like out of the hole if that makes it easier to figure out how to remove.
