Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

finally had time to check the jeep out. passenger side front sun roof drain pinched between dash and firewall. reposition drain tube and problem solved. as for everyone with fuel tank sloshing, i did notice from outside of vehicle you do hear fuel slosh, but when inside the vehicle i wasn't able to hear it.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I've been experiencing some noise from under the car....sounds like sloshing in the fuel tank...and perhaps some other noises that are pretty difficult to explain. Bottom, line, not sure what it is. It's most noticeable in a parking lot when i back into or pull into a parking spot and park. I searched for similar issues on this forum to see if other people had the same issue and found this thread. Was wondering if anyone thought the TSB that came out on December 16 has anything to deal with this? TSB 19-006-10 I am not mechanically apt

The TSB you refer to is about leaking of power steering fluid below the engine compartment. Not related to this noise from under the cabin, either fuel tank sloshing or water from non-functioning sunroof drain lines.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

We are actually on our 2nd 2011 jeep cherokee. The first one we brought into the dealer for 4 separate leaking problems. The first leak sounded like water was sloshing in the passenger side door. The leak turned out to be a seam that was not completely sealed on the doorpost. Not too long after this, we heard water in the same place again. The service department found the same seam to be the issue, but they just did not realize the seam wasn't sealed further up. A few weeks later, we heard water sloshing in the front and back floorboard. When taken in for the third time, we were then told this was a problem that they had seen before with the air conditioning drain. They repaired and drained this leak, but after a few days I discovered more standing water in the back underneath the spare tire. We were fortunate enough to get a collateral trade for a new jeep, hoping that we had just gotten a lemon. We picked up the new one last week and we already hear sloshing water in floorboard again. I am really worried that our first one wasn't a lemon and that this is just going to be an issue with this car. Anyone else???

I have to wonder if the incidence of this problem is based on the winter season in which many of us don't have a lot of liquid precipitation soaking our WK2s yet. Even those in snowy climes probably don't have a lot of snow melt going on yet (could be mistaken here) but rather just frozen stuff that gets chopped away. Here in DC we have not had much rain. The self-serve car wash has been the only prolonged exposure to water that my Jeep has endured. Are you in a more temperate part of the country and does your Jeep stay outside all the time?

I will be on the lookout for leakage after the weather breaks but for now, no issues of any kind.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

This and the shuddering issue are two things I'm really listening/looking for with my new jeep. Many of our streets have a U shaped channel along the curb for water drainage, that you have to cross over when turning onto another street. They move the car pretty good side to side. I have gone over them with my radio off, and I have yet to hear any sloshing from my tank, regardless of how empty it is.... Therefore I don't think it is normal. If I starting hearing it consistantly, I'm taking the jeep to the dealer to have the floor boards opened up....

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

i had this problem 4 days after picking up my overland back in july,as soon as i heard the noise i felt water under my feet there was probably 10 gallons of water after they pulled the plugs .i made them replace the carpet and they gave me free oil changes for 3 years under the chrysler maintenance plan, now if they fix the driveline shudder i would be happy 8500 miles to date now. the problem was the ac line was never hooked up .

Anybody has an idea what this could be? I think it's a gas moving in the gas tank but not really sure.
There is a drain pan underneath the front end of the car where water from rain, car washes, etc. flows through. There is a plug in the drain pan which should have been removed at the plant. Many are not removed and we now remove them when we DPI the units for retail. The reason you noticed it on day 1 is because it went through a car wash when it was detailed. It's real simple to remove from beneath the car about 8" in at the plane where the driver and rear passenger doors meet. A little harder to reach if you have skid plates. If you are hearing sloshing you have a lot of water in there, so stand clear when you pull the plug. Better yet, have a dealership do it. There should be no charge for them to pull the plug. This drain system is actually a plus and is made of a rust proof metal that should never corrode. Just get the drain unplugged before it fills up to avoid having water come up through the floor. Once the plug is removed, you'll never hear sloshing again. As soon as we get a CG on a lift I'll take some pics.

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

+ rep ar15nova, thanks.

For the first time I heard the gas tank sloshing sound but only from the exterior while tightening the rear wheel lugnuts which caused JGC to rock back and forth a bit.
