They started installing them after your build date.

Re: Snow Blocker pinched

Thanks for the heads up. So I just glued (using clear silicone) the upper part of it and along the base which you can tilt to one side then the other in order to get the silicone under it.

Silicone is now dry and there is no play in the foam piece at all.

Oh well, I'll find a piece of scrap something or another and fabricate one and glue it in there. Did they start putting these in due to a known problem?

Re: Snow Blocker pinched

The 2011 JGC hit the market in about May 2010. The foam thingies started to appear in late fall or early winter but not at the same time as the rubber lip on the front of the driver's side of the hood. Someone may have the exact dates.
I have the foam thingy and mine is early Feb. 2011 build. I do not remember reading about a problem which caused their appearance, but there must be a reason which made it back to Jeep engineers.

Might look @ this thread 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

Looks like it was too easy for ground water to splash into the air intake which caused fatal engine failure. Snow blocker is apparently part of the solution.

Re: Snow Blocker pinched

They should of had the intake facing the side of the jeep/fender instead of straight forward. I'm sure you could fabricate something to change the direction of the intake.

Re: Snow Blocker pinched

Has anyone with an early build date without the foam insert or the rubber hood lip had any luck getting these pieces installed by the dealer under warrantee? My í11 has a July Ď10 build date and I donít have either. I made it through last winter without any issues, but figured if Chrysler re-engineered these pieces there must be a reason.

Thanks!

My August 2010 built WK2 didn't have the weather strip under the hood. I went to the parts department, showed them using the parts diagram/catalog that my WK2 was missing this item. They ordered it and the service department installed. Warranty item, didn't pay a cent.

As for that rubber foam block, the last time I looked, didn't show up in the parts catalog/diagram.

Thanks Rage. Can you tell me where I can get my hands on a copy of the parts catalog diagram?

No change for 2012, based on ours at any rate. Looks like something out of the Mattel parts box. For sure if it's just sticky-taped in place it needs to be gently pried off, tape removed and the block glued back on with Gorilla glue or something comparable -- including along the side, which is currently not affixed at all.

What were Chrysler's decision makers thinking? Imagine a mom and kids having the engine stall from air starvation and getting rear ended by a semi. You'd think that even if they have no pride in their work that the legal staff that makes the owner's manual a mass of asinine warnings would have flagged this.
