Re: So I left my car running today for 4 hours.

I am right there with you on forgetting to hit the button. Heck, last week I was so pissed thinking my Jeep was defective because it would not turn off by pushing the button. It took me a minute to realize (even with the EVIC telling me) my car was not in park. SMH

Re: So I left my car running today for 4 hours.

I also look at the EVIC to make sure it says "OFF" before I get out the vehicle. It replaces my taking the keys out of my old WK.

Hilarious stuff IMO. Put a louder exhaust so you hear it running.

Re: So I left my car running today for 4 hours.

I've had my WK2 for about 5 months now.

I did this for the first (and hopefully only) time last week.

Went to get lunch (to go) and parked my WK2. I "thought" I shut the vehicle down but when I returned about 10 minutes later, I found it still running!

Hopefuuly that one time will remind me to SHUT the DARN VEHICLE OFF before exiting it.

BTW, my Hemi can be rather quiet when it wants to be so I didn't hear it still running when I walked away.

I think i read that if you hold the button down for 2 seconds it will shutdown, even if in Drive. Haven't tried it myself yet.

Having the truck shut itself off after 20 minutes would present an obvious safety risk. Or what if you got the infamous "Key Not Detected" message while you were driving down the road and the truck suddenly shut itself off? Or what if someone dropped the truck off to you, left it running while you switched vehicles, then accidentally took off with the key still in their pocket? You'd be stranded. It would be nice, however, if there was an audible chime. My wife's Maxima will make a beeping noise outside the car if you leave it running and take the keys with you, but it still won't shut itself off.
Agree there should be a chime. Left my engine running overnight Wednesday;very disappointing.

Re: So I left my car running today for 4 hours.

You know I'm new here and admit I'm an older guy, but what is the point of having a push button to turn on/off the engine. All these problems would not exist if you had to start the vehicle with a key in the ignition like the good old days! Another example of technology that we don't really need raising the cost of the vehicle and causing more problems. As I mentioned in my first post, I have an 02 Yukon that I am thinking of trading in on a new Grand Cherokee in the fall. My Yukon has the old technology where, you know, you have to put a key in the ignition to start the vehicle. Can someone tell my why it is better to have a push button to do that?

It's all about convenience and luxury. I enjoy the keyless enter n go and push start technology.

As for others, those features can be disabled and you can pull the push start button out an use the key. The owners guide will cover all this.

Re: So I left my car running today for 4 hours.

I really like not fumbling with the key. I just keep it in my pocket and forget about it.

My wife's car has a button but you have to insert the electronic fob in the dash to make it work. That seems stupid to me.

I have not left the car running, but I can see it happening.

Re: So I left my car running today for 4 hours.

In below zero weather, I like starting the car a few minutes before leaving the office to heat up the seats and wheel and get the heater going. In 90+ degree weather I like having the car start cooling down before I hop in. I like not having to fumble for the key with my hands full, or take off my gloves, leaving the key in my pocket. After finding the hatch open a couple times, I fabricated a plastic guard as discussed somewhere in this forum.

Its like having a heater (heaters were optional at one time) and then air-conditioning after living without for years. I don't know how I've survived all those years without the remote start and keyless entry You know, think they should get rid of those newfangled automatic transmissions while they're at it? Those things cost a lot of money.
