Software upgrade tomorrow.

Taking my WK2 to the dealership tomorrow to upgrade the software (TSB 18-038-11) for better acceleration and colder AC. Anyone else remember when you had to bolt on a set of headers and add a can of freon to do that?

Mine is going on Tuesday and will also get the Audio IPod fix (TSB 18-036-11).

Had it done on Friday: not sure AC is colder... even on COLD, it does not get really cold. Have to crank the fan to *** or **** to really get the cabin somewhat cold.
Shifting seems smoother. I'm a very slow/conservative driver (I occasionally nail it, but rarely), so can't comment to much on acceleration improvement yet ;-)

Just got back from having the PCM update at the dealership. Frankly, I did not notice any difference in either the power curve or AC. It is about a 15 minute drive with a 55 mph speed limit, so I didn't have a good chance to punch it. They also did TSB 21-008-11 (false service 4wd warning light) while I was there as a proactive measure.

Well I had mine completed on Tuesday and have had some time to try it all out under different driving conditions to include a full on 2 inch an hour rain fall.

Before feedback on the updates I should mention that I took the truck in for two updates and the dealer found another that was needed.

The updates that I had completed are as follows:
TSB 08-036-11, IPOD AND IPHONE COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
TSB 08-024-11a, FLASH: INTERMITTENT NO START OR INTERMITTENT RKE FUNCTION
TSB 18-035-11, FLASH: DRIVEABILITY AND TRANSMISSION AND HEATING AND A/C IMPROVEMENTS

So for the first TSB 08-036-11:
I repaired my Samsung Epic cell phone and then selected media, found my cell phone and started to stream music via Bluetooth. At first there was the same hiccup but after a few seconds it was flawless. I use it every time I get in the car and there has not been one issue with it in the last three days.

HOWEVER…… I can no longer get my IPod touch (gen4) to connect with my radio system.
The old pairing is still on the display but it says “this device is no longer available”.
I do not remember how I paired them to start with.

For the second TSB 08-024-11a:
I have only had this issue happen to me twice in the three months I have owned the vehicle and I have not seen it happen in the last three days so this one will take some time to see if it is corrected. No ill effects from the flash noticed. I have had a different issue happen 5 or 6 times in the past where the vehicle reves up very high (3500 rpm) when starting. This could be my fat feet hitting the break and gas at the same time when starting.

For the third TSB 18-035-11:
First for the air issue, I found that if you are on “auto” all the time take it out of auto and adjust the fan to the speed that you would like then put it back in “auto”. I have found (or think I have) that the fan will now stay at this speed. I have not had the burst of warm air in the last three days as I was getting every time I would slow down from a long stretch of driving at a constant speed (over an hour). This is another one of those “Time will tell” issues.

For the hesitation and the shifting….. I feel like I have just had a major overhaul. The shifting is now baby smooth and there is absolutely no hesitation when I punch it. I tried to force some hard shifts with the setting in “Auto” and it just shifts smooth without any effort, uphill, downhill and in the curves. Sometimes I even miss the shift it is so smooth. I have yet to try it out in “Sports” mode or any of the others so I cannot comment on them. No ill effects noticed so far from the flash.

All in all it was worth having the dealer do the work and being without the vehicle for the 4 hours it took them. The only down side here is that the dealer here does not wash the car after a service but that is to be expected as I took my business elsewhere when they could not obtain the vehicle to start with.

Bottom line: Go get the updates done….. ;)
