Spare key in Fob sets off alarm.

Hello all,

I just got my second jeep (I love it) a few months back and have figured most things out but I have a question for you all. I am a surfer so whenever I go into the water, I use the key that comes in the key fob. (I don't want to put the fob in my wetsuit or get it wet), but every time I open the doors with the little key, the alarm goes off. Is there any way to avoid this? I went through the manual and the menu in the car and can't turn this off. Is this normal? Lately, I have been leaving my keys in an empty coffee cup next to my towel and would rather not do this, but the alarm is so loud I don't want to upset the people living near where I park.

Thanks for your time.
Chris

I have a 2012 GC with a remote start key fob. Wasn't sure if you would want to know this.

I don't know if this works but I came across this post the other day.

Posted by FUZZ866 in Sept 2011: Manually lock all the doors by hand. Push eack door lock down by hand before closing. Then push the drivers door lock down by hand before closing, instead of using the remote. You may also use the key inside the remote to lock the door from the outside. But don't use the remote and this should override the alarm system, keep the vehicle secure and the alarm system off.

I just thought I would post an update in case anyone else has this issue. This quote below works every time. I would like to thank the two posters above me!! I am so glad I no longer have to worry about waking the neighborhoods.
