Re: Squeak / creak in seat

Just noticed a creak from the driver's side seat as well. Just as OP mentioned I can definitely recreate the noise every time when pushing against the seat with my elbow. It's not too terrible, but am curious if anyone else had any success in eliminating the noise?

Re: Squeak / creak in seat

I believe I just fixed the problem in mine. Pull the seatback cover off by pulling out from the bottom and sides, then pull down. Place both hands at the top of the seat on either side of the head rest. Push firm, then pull firm. You'll hear the squeak coming from the lower right hinge area where the seat back attaches to the seat. Simply spray WW40 on the hinge and opposite the hinge inside the seat. Pull and push on the seat until you've worked the WW40 in, then the squeak will go away. Wipe up excess, re-install the seatback cover and you should be good to go.

I had this squeaking issue. Dealer replaced isolator bushings on both front seats. The squeaking came back in the passenger seat. Dealer replaced lower seat frame and seat backing. So no more squeaking at all.

Re: Squeak / creak in seat

Been to the dealer twice for this. Both times they re-tightened the seat and the noise keeps returning. I contacted Jeep customer support and their advice was to try a different dealer. Gee, thanks! Why, so they can try re-tightening the bolts?

Anyway - Schweibs, was there a TSB or something on this? Do you know how they arrived at the lower frame as the problem?

My service rep told me that there was a tsb to replace the isolater bushings and they thought that it could fix the issue but they didn't guarantee it. When I went back to the dealer a week later I told them the squeak came right back. I watched a mechanic push my seat left and right and it was moving a lot more than a car seat should. He said it was definitely not ok and he said replacing the lower frame and possibly seat backing would fix the issue.

Re: Squeak / creak in seat

In another thread on noises/rattles, someone mentioned that the cables under the seat were causing them issues. You might check that out as well.

Re: Squeak / creak in seat

I have a 2007 GC, not a wk2, BUT:
I recently disassembled the front seat (change them for srt8 seats) and the lower part connects to the upper part through 4 bolts that have to be TIGHT.
My passenger seat had a squeak, so when I disassemble it, I checked if the bolt where tight, and 2 of them (on 1 side only) where missing approx 1.5 turn of that bolt (they where not COMPLETELY tight). I used something similar to wd40 (rust off) on the bolts and in the holes, and I made sure that I did tight the bolts in the new seats as much as I could, and I donīt have any squeak at all now.
I donīt expect you to do that, but tell your dealer to give it a try.

Re: Squeak / creak in seat

After 3 trips to the dealer close to my work I tried contacting Jeep customer service. Their answer was to try a different dealership. Fortunately for me the next closest is maybe 10 miles further. If it were no so close I would have been really pissed at that answer but whatever.

I plan to do some troubleshooting on my own when it warms a bit. I'll probably pull the seat and lube every joint I can find. Absolutely stupid in a $40k vehicle.

Re: Squeak / creak in seat

So on Tuesday my (very petite) wife took my Jeep for the day, moving the seat to her settings. Wednesday I realized towards the end of the day that it didn't seem to be squeaking any more. Well I confirmed that thought this morning as there are 2 left turns where the squeak is always horrible - and there is no more noise. I can't say if it is gone permanently but apparently moving the seat back/forth + up/down may alleviate the issue. In any case I now know 100% the problem was in the seat adjustment mechanism and not somewhere internal. If it comes back I know where to spray lube. Fingers crossed!

Re: Squeak / creak in seat

So, that was a temporary solution. Squeak came back. On the plus side it seems adjusting the seat stops the noise temporarily. I'm going to attempt to get some lub on the bushings and see if that helps.

Does anyone know if the lower seat trim can be removed without pulling the seat?
