Re: Squeak / creak noise from rear passenger area, 2014

I have had a rear rattle/clunking sound when going over a bumpy ride since new. The dealer thinks that the rear shocks are defective, and are telling me that Jeep is re-designing them and replacement shocks will be available in the future.

My Jeep is a 2014 Summit with V-8 and the trailer package. If you get the factory trailer package, it has self leveling shocks in the rear. According to my dealer, this is the only model that has the problem shocks.
I have been waiting 6 months for a resolution to this problem, and I can't find any aftermarket replacement shocks that would fix this.

Any else having this issue?

I have a 2014 limited V6 with tow package and just had both rear shocks replaced by my dealer. They were clunking at low speed. It fixed the problem but we'll see if it happens again. I'm not sure if the replacements are any different than the originals.

I have a '12 with the air suspension and the creak/clunk noise has visited me too. So far its been the shock, twice. The first replacement only lasted a month. They also greased the rubber bushings on the control arm. I also have to have a front right ball joint replaced. Have to wait for the part. Not real impressed with the quality of this suspension due to multiple failures, all before 30k miles. I can't say I wasn't warned but I really liked this vehicle. I guess I learned my lesson.

I'd like to know if anyone had it addressed at the dealer and if so, what they adjusted or tightened. It's becoming a bit annoying now.
I have a 2014 SRT and the squeaking and cracking sound is absolutely annoying in my jeep. I was going to take it into the shop this week.

I really like the Jeep. I am sure that Jeep will find a solution to the shock rattle, or I will replace them with aftermarket shocks as soon as they are available. Overall, I am very impressed with the new Grand Cherokees.......

Re: Squeak / creak noise from rear passenger area, 2014

So I picked my JGC up yesterday after exactly one week.

Here's the final report:

Removed the headliner to access the sunroof. The sunroof was fine, tightly attached but the noise could be duplicated when prying up & down on the sunroof. Found noise in the the right rear pillar area. They tried adhesive in the pillar area and let dry overnight. Still creaking.

Expanding foam was used, as per body shop's recommendation and allowed to sit overnight. Still creaking.

They contacted Chrysler and were instructed to remove the sunroof and have the body shop weld the pillar seams. Body shop cleaned & welded the right rear pillar seams. Reinstalled the sunroof and all interior finishing. Creaking noise gone! Dead silence. FINALLY!

Re: Squeak / creak noise from rear passenger area, 2014

I keep reading through these threads talking about annoying noises coming from the back, but it's always attributed to those with a sunroof or panoroof...I have neither.

My noise happens (not always) when I come to a more abrupt stop or when I'm going down the ramps at the parking garage, like something is gaining momentum and sliding/moving, that creates a *click*. The noise is definitely coming from the inside of the cabin and isn't the suspension. It's starting to drive me mad and my neighbors are wondering why I keep hitting parts of the car with my ear to it and why I'm jumping on the back with the tailgate open...

So, where in the hell are you coming form little *click*?!

I keep an umbrella in the pocket where the flashlight is mounted. When ever I make a quick turn, sudden stop, or jackrabbit start, I hear a thump. I can blame it on the umbrella, and quit worrying about it.
