Re: Squeak / creak noise from rear passenger area, 2014

Is it a high pitched squeaky sound? I just noticed it today when going over some bumpy road. It also does it when the music is turned up a bit with some bass going. The Squeak is right above the right rear passenger headliner and when I push up on the headliner in that area the squeak stops!
So annoying I will have to take her in so they can look at it.

Yeah. It is annoying. I listened to it for over a month until I finally took it in and I was relieved when they told me they heard it. All they had to do was drive it around their lot since the asphalt was so uneven that the flexing of the body caused it to creak. They even reproduced it by pressing along the edges of the sunroof. It was an annoying process for them to figure it out until they contacted Chrysler, who told them to check the welds.

I'm telling you, it was night & day, the difference. It's SOOOOO quiet now.
Make sure to mention that as a very real possibility.

Ditto-- I left the TSB with them, they said It didn't apply, BUT, they heard the noise. Said it was because there's missing insulation in the c pillar. They pulled the headliner, replaced the insulation, and noise is gone.

BUT--- there is a small rattle I can hear from the same area when I go over bumps at high speed... I'm going to figure out if it's something that bothers me... if it does, I'm going to raise it when I bring it in for service next time.

Re: Squeak / creak noise from rear passenger area, 2014

Had the squeak too, but coming from the passenger front footwell. Sounded like a cheap metal bed creaking at low speeds or anytime the vehicle came to a stop or accelerated. First time i bought it in, they found a missing bolt on the control arm, as well as two loose bolts as well. Car was fine for two days of constant driving, now its back. Dealer says they cant find anything else and will retourque the bolts??? Anyone have similar instances of missing bolts? Car only has 6000 miles and is a 2/14 build.

Maybe you have a similar issue like what I had. Read my posts above if you haven't already.

So get this. I thought it was the pano roof and took it in knowing they would have to pull down the headliner and pillars. They started to but noticed inside there was a seatbelt issue passenger side up inside the top behind everything... Maybe it's an issue on a number of vehicles. Anyway. All noises have now gone away from that area. Glad they didn't have to play w the pano roof.

I'm convinced at this point that each vehicle that has strange creaking sounds, has it's own, unique reason why.
Chrysler has been consistently inconsistent there.

No problem. Dealership figured it out ... passenger b pillar was epoxied wrong, foam worked its way out of place, and some plastic parts were rubbing together. They replaced the parts, foam, and epoxy, squeak gone.

Losbot, have you heard the noise since the body shop welded the body seam? I have a 16 overland with the panorama roof and the creak was coming from the driver side. Took it to the dealer and they used the special seam sealant. Seemed like the problem was fixed. It has now been 1100 miles later and it is creaking again. Really frustrated since the Jeep only has 3300 miles on it. First Jeep. Kind of regretting buying it.

Here's the final report:

Removed the headliner to access the sunroof. The sunroof was fine, tightly attached but the noise could be duplicated when prying up & down on the sunroof. Found noise in the the right rear pillar area. They tried adhesive in the pillar area and let dry overnight. Still creaking.

Expanding foam was used, as per body shop's recommendation and allowed to sit overnight. Still creaking.

They contacted Chrysler and were instructed to remove the sunroof and have the body shop weld the pillar seams. Body shop cleaned & welded the right rear pillar seams. Reinstalled the sunroof and all interior finishing. Creaking noise gone! Dead silence. FINALLY!
