Squeak found-seat

Found the source of an annoying squeak today. My center console armwrest is rubbing against the side of my front passenger seat. It seems the center console isn't very well centered; there's about a 3/4" gap between the driver's side seat and the armwrest while the side of the passenger's seat makes contact with the armwrest.

How do your arm rests look? Are they centered between the seats? Do you have similar squeak inducing contact?

It isn't the center armrest/console that's off, the passenger seat is often mounted to close to the center console. Quality Control is severely lacking on the 2014 WK2's. One thing I noticed that is done correctly vs my 2012 Overland is that the dashboard is centered correctly. On my 2012, the dash was off to the right to much.

Do you think it's fixable?

You could try loosening the 4 nuts that retain the seat tracks to the floor and move the seat away from the center console. Seat is pretty heavy, so it takes a good shove to move it. But from the few I have looked at with this problem, the upper backrest needs to move outward independently from the seat bottom. That I imagine would require more disassembly.

Re: Squeak found-seat

I realize this is a really old thread, but figured I'd try to give it a bump before posting a new thread. I just purchased a '14 Overland which has a squeak from the armrest, and thanks to this thread, I realized now what is happening. Jrein, did you have any luck? Has anyone else tried to adjust the whole seat or the backrest, or have you had any luck with your dealers adjusting? Thanks!

Unless you bought it used with no warranty wathsoever, take it back to the dealership and have them readjust it asap, and yes not only is Quality Control severely lacking on the 2014 WK2s, it is almost non existent, have you checked your lift gate alignment along with parts not being bolted down correctly in the engine compartment or foreign objects inside your air box just to name a few.

Re: Squeak found-seat

Mine's been to the dealer twice for the squeaking seat already. Stupidly, the only thing that has fixed it so far was letting my wife take it to work one day. She returned it to me and I expected to get annoyed with something. Driver seat was silent. She's well over a foot shorter than me so I attribute that with lubricating the seat rails when she moved the seat all of the way forward and up. If anyone wants, drop your Jeep off at my house and I'll have her fix yours as well.

Re: Squeak found-seat

My MY15 Laredo driver's seat is squeaking on the door side. Started with an occasional small squeak a few months ago. Would you believe that two days before its service it stopped squeaking. So I did not mention it.

A month later it started again. A small squirt of silicone spray up under the seat stopped it for a week but now getting annoying again. Seams to be on the door side of the seat both in the squab and lower back rest. Clearly this is not on the centre console side and clearly in the seat itself. Everything else with the car is great after 14,000km.

Re: Squeak found-seat

Someone on this site recommended adjusting the lumbar, that has worked for me, lasting for a few weeks now.

I tried that and a number of other things including a bit of spray lube in a few places. Eventually it comes back and is getting louder. Took it to the dealer and they have ordered a new seat base to be fitted soon, so will see how that goes.

Other than a squeaky seat it is a joy to drive. Hadn't lost any points on the licence for years until I bought a Jeep 🤔. Love the grunt of the diesel.
