Re: Squeak In Dash ( driving me nuts)

If you add some lube to the tops of them it helps as well.

Re: Squeak In Dash ( driving me nuts)

Sounds like a common issue. I got the "squeak" now with 12k miles on the odometer. Not a big deal for me, as I used to be a body man. Guess I will play with the hood next time I open it, or have the dealership fix it at the next oil change.

Re: Squeak In Dash ( driving me nuts)

Hey guys, I've had the squeek/rattle coming from behind my dash. it sounded like it was coming out of the dash vent. there was no reason for it to start and stop - It would start and stop for no reason.

I called up to the dealer and they asked that I bring it in for evaluation.

I dropped it off at the dealer - they gave me a rental car (DURANGO) and said they would call me.

when i picked it up, she told me there were two notifications from JEEP for this problem. They performed both. ONe was a clip that's attached to the steering column - it needed to be retorqued

and the 2nd notification was with one of the hood hinges, it needed to be retorqued.

They sent the paperwork home with me but, (just went looking for it - I left it at the office)

If you guys would like me to scan and post the JEEP dealer notifications, let me know and I will.

My service provider told me they performed both - either way it's fixed. It's quiet inside now- perfect.
and too, when I picked it up the next day, All was fixed plus they gave me a coupon for a free detail.

I have the GREATEST DEALER in the country. They are the reason both my wife and I have new JEEPS, I have the '14 Overland and my wife has a '15 Overland

(before the two that we have now, we've had a 01 Cherokee Limited 4.0 4wd - '05 GC Limited 4wd HEMI- '08 GC Limited 4.7 2wd and '06 RAM 2500 5.7HEMI 4wd)

Since day one, we've had all of them visit the local Dodge/Jeep dealer for any and all repairs. we had two different ones to choose from. (after 3 years ago my local dealer in Newnan GA was purchased by a new owner- and ever since then, we've only visited the one in Newnan)

Re: Squeak In Dash ( driving me nuts)

Had same issue for the last 12 + months.
Noise coming from right side over cat eyes rough bitumin and gravel at low speed 10 to 80 km/h
Thought it was bezel around instrument cluster, had that fixed. Still there.
Doing my head in.
Tried adjusting hood stops, still squeaked like a mouse somewhere.
Was told by jeep probably sway bar bush, they sprayed silicon spray on all suspension parts to no avail.
Recently sprayed inox on radiator support rods behind bumper. Squeak noise gone.
Will update if it comes back.

MY FIX FOR RATTLE/SQUEAK

I experienced squeaking and rattling and thought it was coming from either the driver side door, A-Pillar or dash.

After watching the video below I was able to fix the rattle and squeak noise.
https://youtu.be/JV1B5Kw5_wk

I couldn't believe the rattle was being cause by the bracket underneath the vehicle on the driverside. The passenger side also has bracket. There are three bolts that hold it in place.

My bracket didn't vibrate or move when I tapped it with screwdriver like in the video, however, 2 of the 3 bolts weren't even hand tight.

Re: Squeak In Dash ( driving me nuts)

I had also suffered with the preverbal rattle in the area around the corner of the dash. In this case it was on the driver's side, and being Australia it is right hand drive. Nevertheless, it drove me a little nuts, particularly as the vehicle was new at the time. I did raise the matter with the dealer, but he seemed totally uninterested in pursuing it. I began to tap (thump) the area around the corner of the dash but this failed to bring on the rattle. With the door open I thumped the inner door card in the area where it meets the dash and was able to hear the rattle. I removed the door card, which is relatively simple, and discovered that a bolt located near the very small speaker was not fully wound in all the way. However, I soon discovered that it had been installed cross-threaded, which necessitated in removing the bolt and correcting it with a tread tap. Once reassembled there was only blissful silence and that is now three years ago. I also developed a rattle in the centre consul / glove-box area which in the end resulted in me removing the heater control and screen section, which again is not difficult, where I also discovered to odd bolt that was not completely secured and cabling that benefited from being secured with cable ties. That annoying rattle is also gone. Of course if all else fails there is always the old and tried method of turning up the volume on the radio. I hope those of you who are still burdened with these annoying rattles will have some joy in resolving them.
