squeaky noise like old mattress springs
Hello I have 2 dodge ram 1500 2wd years are 99 and 2000. I have read tons of these post on mattress springs noise or squeaks when you push down on the front number
Go over the smallest bump
Turn the stearing wheel.
Get into the truck. Etc
The sound was so loud I new something was bad. 00000 by the way before I get into all the parts I changed it was only noise coming from the bottom of the big spring eco all over. I used wd40. Instant gone.
I changed the ball joints
Body bushing and added 3 inch life
Control arm bushing
All the rod ends .
$800 In parts
Everything on the front end is new
Well test drive. No change in the squeaks they are very loud sounds like rubber pitching or the sound of rubbing a balloon but high pitch. I was up But My truck was higher and I needed them anyway. Not
My 99 was worse 289000 miles. Farm truck beat up from firewood trips. Instead of replacing all the parts on my front end like I did on my 2000 dodge. I used wd40 all noise is gone. So to stop the movement permanent ly where the spring sits on the lower control arm. They sell a spring bolt Basicly any auto store. All it is is a metal plate about 1/4 thick that slide into the bottom of the spring then it has a bolt. Installed 5 minutes. Noise gone.
Hope this helps a few of yall in the future. Water makes it worse don't spray water on the spring bottom. Use wd40. If the noise goes away. Ding you got it. I'm going to spread my find with every car I see squeaking around. All the old cars had the spring bolt. In the 70s. I guess they figures it not needed anymore.
But it was imbarrasing to drive . It was loud
Took me a year to find this out the hard way. When it first started the squeak it would go away with the outside temp change. And go away for weeks. Then. Back and louder. Like riding a old mattress down the freeway..
Again hope this helps someone. Sorry it's so long I was trying to be derailed as possible. This is my first post. And I seen lots of post that leave you hanging.
