For the gear selector to be able move out of park into reverse or drive requires that the car be in run mode.
When I remote start mine, I do not have to hit the brake to get it to turn on. I just did it this morning. I got in, hit the button, and it went into normal driving mode.

I can't move the lever like you said until I hit the button to get it into run mode.

I would blame the stalling on the break in period. It sounds like all of the weird issues people have, we are told to wait a few more miles and it will go away on it's own.

Re: Stall while accelerating (5.7L)

I've never tried it without pressing the brake, so maybe you don't have to. I know that you have to press the brake pedal to start it normally, so I assumed that you had to do the same after you remote start it to get it into run mode. I do know for sure that pressing the brake pedal when it has been remote started will not kill the engine though, which was the point I was trying to make.
