Re: Staples in the fender flares?

My guess is it probably keeps the flairs from bulging in spots. Doesn't look like they are building theses things to last, staples and two sided tape on exterior parts? In 4 or 5 years I wonder what these areas that are held together with staples and two sided tape will look like after the elements get to them for a few years, yours are already rusted GClimited. Probably something to deal with right after 3/36 is expired and an item maxcare wont touch it.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Yeah, I saw the staples in my flairs the day I took delivery. I just shook my head.

What I really hate is Jeep using the edge of the rear doors to form the wheel wells. Nothing like having road salt and crap flung into that seam and expecting that cheap door gasket to stop it.

The staples aren't holding anything in place. I got my finger in behind the front ones & they are closed in behind not attached to anything.

Here's a pic of one of the staples from the other side of the rear fender flare. You see it's closed, not holding anything in place....oh & already rusting.

I think I'm going to remove these before they start staining the white paint. Not before I photograph them.

Do any Chrysler reps visit this site who can tell us why the hell they have these staples on the Grand Cherokee?

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

I went out to my jeep yesterday right after reading this thread, and I pulled out the staples in the front fenders...only to find out they were in the rear fenders as well. Pulled them out too.

Okay... now that we've found the staples, I'm waiting to see how long it takes someone to find out where they used the bubblegum and scotch tape.

And how's your transmission shifting now?

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

I've pulled them out of both my MY14 Overlands... early and late. I figured that they were there to hold some protective stuff in place during delivery?

Anyway, the area was partly covered by the mudflaps... and the other part gets trashed by stone strike. If you're more into "show'n'shine" I can imagine it's a bit of a let down!

Cheers,
Steve

found it, well two sided tape not scotch tape but we will see how those fender flares stay on after a few years. after a year and a half I can see 3 spots the tape is just barely starting to lift. no issue now but ask me again in a year. lol

Still crappy...like your attempt at humor.

Sorry, but this is a sore subject for me. Be thankful your $40,000+ Grand Cherokee shifts well for you Bill.

Hey GCLimited, what did you use to remove the staples without making a mess of the paint where they're located?

Just a small blade screw driver to raise the staple up a bit, then needle nose pliers to pull it out. The staples are pretty wimpy, and are easy to pull out.
