Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Hmm...

I have no clue why these staples are here nor have I ever noticed them???

If we were attaching a build sheet or something to a vehicle, we would use tape, not a staple.

I'll dig some when I get back to work. I'm on vacation right now...

Great thanks......I'll have to give that a whirl in the next day or so.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Well I pulled out the staples yesterday & in the process found two more, one in the underside of the back door wheel flare moulding on both sides of my Overland.

My staples weren't loose fitting so when I pried them out, I ended up with a black void where the painted staples had been. Had to touch them up...low budget for a $65000. CAN vehicle.

I ended up walking through the lots of a couple of Chrysler dealerships in my area to see if this was the norm or the exception.

It's the norm boys & girls...every single Grand Cherokee I saw on a dealer lot had the same staples in the same areas.

I was able to get my hand in behind the flare & the staples are holding anything together. They're just there...it's really odd.
If there is nothing behind them, I'd consider removing them before they rust.
A bit of touch up might cover any holes behind without any need for bondo.

? wonder if they were used to just hold something in place during a repair or fixup?

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Even though Marlon stated that he had no clue what the staples were for, I have to wonder if the supplier had attached some kind of protective covering to the fender flares for shipment to the plant. I just can't think of any other explanation for this.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Since (like most) I never noticed them until I went looking for them, they will stay put. If they rust out I'll put in a warranty claim.

Yeah, I saw them at work.

Still don't get it... I don't know who the supplier is either so I have no way of figuring this out.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Since Bill has the staples, I had to check my Jeep. Damn, I have them in the exact same place! Wonder if it's just the models with the color matched molding, or all of them?
