Re: Staples in the fender flares?

I'm going to take a WAG here and say that it's only the painted flares.

Okay, I need to find out who the supplier is and figure out what the heck is going on.

Time for a trip to "the back"...

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

I have been lurking here considering buying Grand Cherokee #3. Sorry to say this, but that is a low grade move to leave staples like that and paint over them. Whoever is responsible for a bone head move like that should be fired from their job. Completely degrades the fit/finish of the vehicle.

That might be a bit harsh considering most of us had to go take a look in order to find them. If I, and others, haven't noticed them after owning our Jeeps for over a year, the impact of the degradation seems pretty minimal.

I wonder how many other brands have staples in them, since parts are sourced from the same suppliers.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Could they be used for some sort of racking or cover during paint?

Amusing. Ever since I've been on this forum there's always someone that has either never or rarely posted that shows up whenever even the most minor of things is found. And the claim is always the same: some hyperbolic statement about how they've been considering getting a GC but this (whatever "this" is) completely ruins that. Staples...randomly discovered...that others with them never noticed until they looked for them...and the fit and finish of the vehicle is completely and utterly ruined! Oh, the humanity!

Geez. Reality check.

I am curious about them though.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

There was no paint on any of the four staples I pulled off each of the fender trims...as proof, three were rusty. So the staples had to have been put in after vehicle painting.

And the staple plot thickens...

Mine were all painted over as were the ones at the dealerships that I visited in my area.

If they were painted it would have been better since the paint would be still under the staples. With mine now, I have a void in the paint the length of the staple that I have to touch up.
