I can, but it wouldn't be polite or nice to mention it.

This forum needs an icon of a clue bat...

Would you believe NSA surveillance devices?

It DOES look harmless to clip and carefully remove them. Anyone got any info to the contrary?

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Turns out mine has the staples too when I looked harder. Since it seems the majority (or all) have them, I suspect there's a definitive reason for them (although we may never get that answer). It's entirely possible they were meant to be removed before painting but someone neglected to proceduralize that

Staples...randomly discovered...that others with them never noticed until they looked for them...and the fit and finish of the vehicle is completely and utterly ruined! Oh, the humanity!

Geez. Reality check.

I am curious about them though.
Glad you find my comments amusing. I have owned 2 grand cherokees, purchased a total of 5 Jeeps in the past, three in the past 3 years and will probably replace my 2012 Wrangler with a WK2 within the next year or so. The discovery of painted over staples is not going to change my mind regarding the purchase.

I do, however stand behind my comment that the practice of using staples and painting over them reeks of third world manufacturing techniques and should not be found on a $50K vehicle. This is a low grade solution to a manufacturing issue, or the result of poor quality control or God knows what. In any case not an example of prideful manufacturing or engineering.

Peter, I will remember your post if in the future I need an example of hyperbole!

Paul

Question to any that are pondering this issue: Would the discovery of duct tape used during manufacture and the subsequent painting over be any worse than steel staples?

Seriously? You're calling this "third world" manufacturing when you don't even know why they are there? When they are quite concealed along the lip if the wheel wells? When someone found it by accident and I literally had to hunt to find the ones on mine? That sir is hyperbolic, and ridiculous. And sorry, staples are quite useful in a variety of manufacturing purposes here in the "first world."

I have no idea what these staples are right now or what they were used for...but whatever they are the issue is MINOR and not worthy of classifying anything as "third world."

I guess you would be cool with duct tape too... as long as it's first world duct tape.

Maybe using band-aids to hold parts together is where you draw the line...

I looked at my staples with a magnifying glass and I'll be damned if they weren't engraved with "Since 1941." As long as the duct tape or bandaids are suitably branded as gen-u-wine Jeep, I have no problem with it.

To see if you like the painted tape look, open the liftgate and look where the roof meets the 1/4 panels. It does look like high quality duct tape. They did a nice job of painting it.

LMAO Bill... they did such a nice job of painting my duct tape that I wouldn't even have known it was there had you not mentioned it!

LOL... I haven't checked yet to see if I have any in my rocker panels. I suppose I'll need to first wash off the posssum and raccoon roadkill splatter before I can have a look.
