Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Yup I got me some staples to. Hopefully one day we will find out why.

I'm totally fine with staples, when used appropriately. Or duct tape for that matter. Or other kinds of tape. You are aware that your windshield is glued in place right? So are various structural members. You do know that tape is used extensively throughout the vehicle for various purposes correct? How about the trim pieces that are "snap fit" like plastic models?

C'mon...you're acting like there are staples (or duct tape) in plain view or that they are somehow inferior methods. Staples, glue, tape, etc... All of these have a place in any kind of construction including vehicles and are used extensively, even on vehicles costing 2-5x as much as a GC. They're typically used in non or less noticeable areas for aesthetic purposes. And hey...guess what? Not a single person has ever commented on my GC's lovely staples. If they could even find them that is.

Thanks for sharing. I had no idea that the windshield was glued in. I thought it was stapled in.

If you google "fender well staples" you will see that staples are indeed used to attach fender liners to the inside of fenders. A quick study shows this to be mentioned on restoration websites for classic cars manufactured in the 1960's. So be it. Still not crazy about reports of rusted staples and them being painted over. Again, not an issue that would keep me from buying the vehicle.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

The staples are just a stop gap until the 6 inch nails arrive in good supply

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

I just checked my 2014 Limited (July 2013 build). It is Billet Silver with black molding. There are no staples in mine...

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

Could it be that the adhesive tape has a curing time to maximum strength and the staples hold the molding in place to.prevent separation until it cures? Just a thought.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

It looks like the staples are only in the body colored moldings, not the black. Anyone else with the black moldings care to corroborate this? Could be another clue in the mystery.

Re: Staples in the fender flares?

I have no staples in my 2/13 built Limited with black moldings. Perhaps a different supplier for the moldings that wind up being painted?

The staples aren't holding onto anything. I checked each one in back before I pulled them.
