Does anyone's Start/Stop button illuminate? Mine does not. Anyone else have something different?

It's the cheapest part of this new Jeep. The brochures do show an illuminated Start/Stop button but it didn't make it to production. My other car's start button is lit and feels much better.

+1 I hate that stupid knob. Not only is it the cheapest piece on the car it might be the cheapest piece on any car. Ever. What were they thinking? I'd say maybe they never touched it during testing because they only used Auto mode. But even Auto mode wasn't right and needed a TSB.

Sorry for the sarcasm and to hi-jack this thread.

I am sure that somebody could make an aftermarket button with "glow in the dark" type lettering. But yes, it should have been lit. I was surprised by this too.

It sucks that it doesn't light up and this also shows that Jeep hasn't quite caught up to the rest of the vehicle makers in terms of attention to detail and features.

My 6 year old Toyota 4Runner has an illuminated ring around the key slot. It may not be a push-button system but at least I can find it easily at night.

Thanks PWGUY, but I was wondering if it was possible to start the car with just the little metal key without the FOB. I have a feeling this is not possible. I'm trying to figure out a backup to use if I lose the FOB while out in the woods - I assume hiding the spare FOB inside the car somewhere would not work. I guess I could remove the battery from the spare FOB and keep it in the car, then put the little metal key in a hide-a-key under the car somewhere. I wonder if there is another way that might work without having to use both FOBs?

The metal key will not start the car, it only allows you to get in the vehicle. What you could do is; use a hide a key to hide the metal key somewhere outside the car, this would allow you to get in the car. Then hide the second fob somwhere in the back of the jeep on the inside. The jeep can not start unless the fob is in the front part of the cabin, I think the fob needs to be within three feet of the push button in order to start the car. So if the fob is kept in the back the car still can not be started unless the fob is moved to the front of the car.

I tried keeping the FOB in the rear on another vehicle but the FOB was too close to the hatch back and so it would open the hatch. I bet the only way is to remove a battery - not something I plan to need on a regular basis, but I do spend a lot of time out in the middle of no where and away from the vehicle and am always afraid of losing a FOB (in fact most of the time I hide the FOB under a rock somewhere so I don't lose it in the wilderness, but then I forget which rock I hid it under!). I love the FOBs, but life was so much simpler before them...

This subject came up a few months ago - search the forum, someone had a link to key safe that plugged into the hitch receiver. The key safe itself had a combination lock and a cover. You could put the FOB in there (wrap it in tinfoil if the safe itself is not enough shielding)

What Chryco should have done was add the ability to start the damned thing without the FOB, so you could still hide a key... and it would have been exceptionally easy for them to do. Open door with emergency key (no fob in vicinity), alarm doesn't go off, get in Jeep. Hit start button, Jeep doesn't detect a FOB, so it sends power to the touch screen, and prompts you to enter a numeric code or a password (that you set previously). Enter it correctly, it starts the engine and lets you drive it. Enter it incorrectly after 3 times, and it sets the alarm off. Or electrocutes the person in the drivers seat. :)

On the WK2, the doors should not be able to be unlocked from the outside, if there is a fob present on the inside. So if the fob is inside the vehicle, you should not be able to unlock the door from the outside. There have been posters here, that have locked themselves out, by accidently leaving the fob in the cargo area and shutting the lift gate. I have tried this myself. I rolled down the window; locked the door and tossed the fob on the front seat. I was not able to unlock the door from the outside by pulling on the handle
Did you have another fob with you on the outside? If not, then that is why you couldn't unlock it. If one fob is inside the vehicle you should still be able to unlock it if you have the other fob with you on the outside, but not if the only fob near the vehicle is on the inside.

In fact, if you leave the fob inside the vehicle when you get out, and you lock the doors by pressing the lock button on the armrest and then close the door, it should unlock the doors and honk the horn 3 times to alert you are locking yourself out, and if you haven't opened the door by the end of that third honk it will re-lock the doors and you will be locked out. If it detects a second fob outside the vehicle it doesn't do this and simply keeps the doors locked when you close the door.

I believe the removable metal key will open the door.
Then the fob say with flat battery or missing battery can be inserted to the start button switch and start the car. Much like the old Chrysler keys that had the sentry chip in the key head with no battery.

okay i'm pretty sure i know the answer to this but since the 2011 charger/300 button lights up, would it be possible to use those buttons? i'm assuming there is no power inside the switch so even if the buttons were interchangeable it wouldn't work but thought i'd ask anyways...

2013 models should include this feature, the new nav system, & the enhanced EVIC. the LEDs inside the Journey wouldn't be bad either.
