Ok, so I talked to the service manager today and after doing some checking he said they have to tell the computer that there will be a start button attached now. He said that they probably shouldn't have charged the labor costs, mostly because they didn't quote the price beforehand.

So they credited me $43 for labor and shop costs and just charged me for the part. Still sounds like BS to me though

Re: Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

Busted. And they still were not honest with you. No programming of ANY kind required. What a bunch of BS. I would find a more honest dealership, even if he did refund part of the cost for the supposed labor.

Have done business with Walser in the past, and was not impressed. You have many other choices in the area (avoid Park Jeep and Fury Motors South St. Paul like the plague, however). Best luck.

Re: Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

To assist with those in a similar situation in the future...

Test it first!
IIRC, you can take your finger (or perhaps a bic stck pen) and push 'in' on the receptacle that you insert the FOBIK into and twist to start....
pushing 'in' mimics the start-stop button....

Re: Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

On the new WIN modules you can put your foot on the brake and stick an index finger in the hole and it will.......start. I did this a few times when the new ones (only at that time as the WK2's)

100% Total BS. The "computer" does NOT have to know that there is a start button attached.

Did you ask them why they charged you 150% OVER MSRP for the Start Button?

What he should have said: "We shouldn't have charged labor costs because there was no labor involved or required".

Are you going to do anything about it? Alert BBB, Chrysler, States Attorney General. If they were such cheats on a $5 part just imagine when something goes wrong.

I haven't decided what to do. I called 2 other jeep dealers to see what they had to say and one of them actually said the same thing and quoted me the same price.

I think it might be poor training and incompetence more than intentional ripping me off. I just don't know

Really the bbb this is what's wrong with America. Everyone is so sue happy and want to go to some corporation. Just talk to the guy like a man and be done with it people make mistakes, even though he is a svc manager, doesn't mean he knows every technical detail.

I get ripped up on this because Alot of people first reaction to this is to "report them" just deal with it like man

He did, he went and talked to him. If the manager would've done his due diligence, he would've seen that it's nothing more that a plastic button. No programming or anything else required. They just didn't want to admit how wrong they were and give money back.
Me personally, I would take the button out, go to the service dept. or parts counter and ask them exactly what needed to be programmed and why they over charged so much. Look up pricing online and take it with, I know it'll be more at the dealer but not 1000% more.
Stupid ass dealers.

It is called holding people accountable. You obviously did not read the part where the he talked to the dealer and the dealer decided to make up a story to get more money out of the customer. Please educate me on how the BBB relate to a law suit. Thx

Re: Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

My side which is mine and only mine, if you have an issue, and you cant settle it with the Service Manager, then seek assistance from the General Manager, most of the time if its not a chain store (one company who owns several stores) the GM will be there. Talk to them, handle it in house. The BBB is there to protect other customers from bad businesses, but come on, really over this type of an issue, it should 100% be able to solved in house.

Again, this is the interweb, this is my opinion, Before you report them, I would just suggest you see how else you can handle it personally

And exactly HOW will that help the Next Person they try to RIP OFF?!?

I'm also big on handling things person-to-person. But when you find a dealership that acts more like a stealership, then stronger action is required.
