Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

I got my JGC Laredo last week and had the hitch installed today. I also told them that I wanted the Start/Stop Ignition switch since mine seemed to be missing.

My WK2 has the keyless enter N go package and only the Start/Stop button was not there. My question is does that button need to be programmed to work for my car?

The dealer charged me $20 for the part and $38 to install/program the switch. The switch takes about a second to install so they told me that it also needed to be programmed. I just don't want to be ripped off. THX!

$63 total after tax for the switch

Switch in question

Re: Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

No programming required. All that was needed was to install the button (which is standard on all new GC's except the base Laredo without the E package, which does not have the Keyless Enter-N-Go). I believe the dealer ripped you off. Was this a new GC, what dealer?

Wow, you got stiffed for $63.00. I'd go back and demand my money back, and I'd ask them why they are so dishonest.

I bought it used with 24k. So I didn't blame the dealer for the missing part and was willing to pay the $15 or whatever but I was a little surprised and aggravated when they said the bill was $63. It was a Walser Jeep dealership here in MN

Does anybody know where I could find documentation to prove this? I'm going to have to meet with the store manager because it's not a good feeling to have just bought a vehicle from a dealer that you no longer trust

You've been had. When i picked up my overland the start button wasnt in the car. They popped one out of another Overland and put it in to mine. The whole process took all of 30 seconds. All you should have had to do is pay for the part.

Even though the vehicle was used, it's still fairly new, and the least the dealer could have done was comp the part - it would have cost them less than $7.00! Instead, they mark up the part 150% above the MSRP price of $13.20, and then rub salt in the wound by adding a bogus programming fee. If they did this to you on a minor deal, imagine what's in store on future purchases and services.

When viewing a new car, took the demo for a drive, and the button was missing and started it some other way. Dealer said they take the thing out for security reasons, when the vehicle is on the lot. The part is replaced at the time of sale to a new owner.

I call BS on this concept. The button won't do anything without the Fobik being present. If they are worried the button might be removed/stolen, then lock the vehicles when they are on the lot.

This is my biggest concern, now that all trust has been lost, I guess I'll be looking for a new service center

Unless they come up with some excuse that you believe is legitimate, I would never even think of going back to or recommending those crooks.

Re: Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

There is no excuse for something like that. I was in the same situation when I took delivery of my WK2. Start/Stop switch was missing. Salesman told me that option is over $300! I tried to explain to him that the remote start enter n go system was already installed and that the only thing I needed was a simple button that fit the ignition switch. He claims to have checked with parts manager (best friend of mine that he was unaware of) and said you can't just buy a switch. I immediately drove up there and had him meet me in the parts dept. My bud had the switch sitting on the counter. Myth busted.

Same salesman also tried to tell me that for them to add the OEM hitch to my Jeep, it would run me appx $800 + install labor/programming. He almost costed himself a sale, but I produced some documents that pursuaded him to come clean.

All in all, I have ALOT of friends at this particular dealership. They do top notch work. Their parts dept rocks! The owner is a hoot to be around. However, there are a few salesman there that are quite scatterbrained.

Re: Start/Stop button, legit or ripped off

My dealer keeps the button in the glove box or deal bag until the Jeep is sold, then they pop it in. Easier to keep track of keys and less of a chance of someone leaving the Jeep running on the lot.
