Re: Strange Sound when Braking

First post on this forum... Thank you very much... Thanks for the above thread. This is exactly what I have in my new Overland built 8/11 - so I don't think it's the intermediate shaft, as that was for pre-7/11 builds. Only hear it in the front left brake at moderate braking just at coming to a complete stop. Sounds just like a single clunk. The noise can be slightly felt as well and sounds exactly like the pad just beginning to slip on the rotor as you let off the brake just enough to get it to slowly move, like when you are anticipating a red light getting ready to go...

So last post here was April, anyone have this fixed, or did it indeed just go away with brake brake-in?

Thanks.

Re: Strange Sound when Braking

Haven't taken it in yet. Figured I'd let the pads settle in a bit. I knew better, the sound isn't typical break in sounds. Goes to the dealer for the first time this comming Friday.

Re: Strange Sound when Braking

I did a bed-in procedure on mine and it didn't really help. If I had to guess I'd say it's the pad loose in the caliper?? Somehow? Really doesn't effect the braking at all... I'm hoping someone had this either go away or had a diagnosis as the above posts from others describe my noise EXACTLY.

Please post if you get an answer.

Re: Strange Sound when Braking

I have same "clicking" noise ONLY when it comes to a full stop and after heavy braking i own a bosch car service shop here in monclova (mexico) so we lifted the jeep this afternoon and could not find anything wrong my techinician agrees with me is definetly coming from front brakes as if the pad is "sticking" to the rotor when coming to a full stop we even made it do the "sound" on both front wheels braking into a slab of slippery concrete. My WK2 jeep is a v8 limited 2wd with 500 kms in the odometer (300 aprox miles) so far this is the only issue i have found.... I am really enjoying this vehicle HUGE improvement from my 02 wj i am only missing the 4wd system from the old one....

Re: Strange Sound when Braking

^^That's exactly the sound I have. I'm at 300 miles now and no change. No effect on performance either.
Your post is reassuring as I thought it was the same thing and probably nothing to worry about.
still waiting for someone to hear what a dealer thinks this is...

Re: Strange Sound when Braking

Dealer says it's normal... A service tech heard it and said it is the pad moving in the caliper as the weight shifts and is normal. I can live with that...

Of course the service rep first gave the typical answer " we could not replicate the noise"... even though it happens every single stop.
The tech said they looked everything over from below and it looks fine.

I've done several brake jobs on my own vehicles, and have owned many more. I've never heard this noise before or after I break everything down and build it up myself. But whatever, the car stops fine, so shifting brake pads are normal in the JGC. I learned something today.

True that. It's called "groan." I have it now and I had a WK that made the same sound.
