Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

It is always 2 weeks until it actually happens. The software industry are a little more sophisticated. Their standby line is, "Real soon now".

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Hey guys, just contacted my service manager for my monthly update (been 6 months now I've had the problem). He tells me, and take this with a grain of salt, that indeed the issues has been identified, fixed, and tested and they are currently awaiting govt. approval to release it. He now has 7 vehicles with this issue, including his own. So what do you think, govt. approval? Maybe if it affects some of the safety systems they would need to update filings with the NTSB?

At least we're all starting to get sort of the same story across the globe of a fix coming out soon.

I can concur there has now been a release for this issue in australia, only issue is it doesn't work on the early release models prior to the diff ratio change, hence they need to install a new diff in the earlier models for the fix to work. Only problem is, there are no parts in australia

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Gribbs what diff ratios are you talking about? The v6 has always had a 3.07. The v8 is 3.47 with an optional 3.45 elsd and I thought the diesel always had the 3.45?

I did to, but that was what I was told by the nsw service manager. And I think they would want my car resolved ASAP as there is a court hearing about it on the 26th September. Does anyone dele know when they changed the diff ratio?

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Got a call from Jeep offering to install a software patch, which apparently will fix the issue with sand driving.
I am lead to believe that it is only a software installation. Unfortunately can't check it out in sand for a few weeks..

From http://wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm#FAXLE
Front: 3.07 on all WK2s
Rear:
3.6L has 3.06
5.7L has 3.47
6.4L has 3.70
All with ELSD have 3.45 (ELSD comes with Off-road Adventure Pack II but not available for the 3.6L)
There is no mention of what the standard 3L CRD has in the rear ...anyone?

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Do we have a TSB to reference for this software patch?

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Well.....there seems to be a temporary fix to the sand mode issue. On Wed a tech came over to the local service centre and did a software tweak that apparently disables the ABS when you choose sand mode (this is what was communicated through the local service guy).

I checked it out at Stockton over the weekend and first I went for Sand mode (4W-Low) and the Electronic Stability Control OFF light came on and after a few seconds in sand, the Electronic Stability Control light - the separate one (1 O' clock position) which is above the first one, came on. However at no stage did the Failure of ABS got turned on. Later I tried Sand mode with 4W-High and still the same. I did a couple of steep dunes and also drove from Stockton to Anna Bay and for a change there were no issues.

Still a bit puzzled about the ABS; whether the local service guy got the terminology wrong or not ! Has anyone else heard from Jeep / had the software tweak ?
