Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Hi all,
My GC goes back in Tuesday the 9th of October. An updated Drive Train Module from Melbourne has been sent to Brisbane. Apparently Melbourne Service is the only one that can currently do this update. This will apparently fix this issue on normal steel suspension vehicles. Off to Moreton again shortly and will update all....

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

I had my Jeep in to get the supposed "software patch" (this was after originally being told that a patch WAS available for vehicles with air suspension - which I have). When I went to pick it up I was told - "Sorry, we do NOT have any updates to suit your vehicle. We've adjusted the 'parameters' as much as we can." I was unable to extract a single other piece of information regarding the issue.

I'm certain that I haven't been given the full story - which pisses me off a little. I'm not quite sure what to make of it really - I guess I should trust that they know what's best, even if they are bullshitting me to some extent...

Anyway, I duly took the jeep straight onto the beach afterwards for 5 days of beach driving (probably a solid 1.5 hours each day). Sounds crazy, but I almost wanted the problem to occur just so I knew once and for all that there was an issue not, given that I still have had no updates applied and told none are needed. But happily the vehicle never missed a beat. I deliberately kept it in high range, and drove through the softest, boggiest stuff I could and it did not have a problem (I just hope that remains the case).

For my own peace of mind I really would like the software patch if one does actually exist. I would be very appreciative to hear if any others have had a similar (or better) experience trying to obtain the elusive fix...

Edit: Can anyone who has been through the process PM me contact details for Chrysler Australia to chase this up further? Thanks.

A question - has anyone who has had this issue tried resetting the errors with an ODBII interface? I've just picked one up on the assumption that gong offload with all the electronics, it would be nice to have some way of dealing with them getting all uppity for no reason.

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Just thought ill let you guys know your all safe in low range...error still comes up but doesn't disable the 4wd system. low range auto or sand it dont matter. Spent a week camping and 4wd up north in western Australia to find this out..

Also Just got the module installed today sent from melbourne. havent tested it out yet. First person at my dealer to get it done!

Thanks for the info. When you say, "...got the module installed...", is it actually a black box? I expected it to be a software fix.

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Just wanted to update everyone on this forum about a post on another Jeep forum regarding this issue. This is the first time I've seen an acknowledgement that a fix is on the way from someone outside of the dealer network that actually works for Chrysler ...

There is a service bulletin still going through the approval process in the United States. It is for 2011-2013 WK Transfer Case Operational Enhancements. It's a flash and it does cover the driving on beaches issue.

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Another update for all who are as confused as I was about this issue.

I had my GC in the other day to have the module fitted, and had subsequent discussion with Chrysler customer relations. Apparently the module is actually a replacement drive train control module (the actual physical thing). However, the fix is just a software (firmware) update to the module. The reason they actually have been replacing the module is that there are only 2 locations in Aus where they have the equipment necessary to reflash the module software. Therefore they send replacement modules pre-loaded with the software fix to the dealer so they can swap them out and introduce the new software.

As per other posts, they also confirmed to me that the ABS light would now illuminate on the sand but that the 4wd system would definitley still drive both axles. There is still no associated TSB, though there will be one (eventually).

Oh and for anyone else with concerns, I found out the hard way (my car went back to the dealer on 3 separate occasions before this was sorted) that the best way to get this resolved is to go via Chrysler customer relations. I am glad to *finally* know exactly what is involved so hope this info will assist others out there.
