Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

Hi,

The only way to get this problem fixed is to get new software loaded into the drive train control module. This software is experimental and is still not officially released, but without it you are vulnerable to getting the error again. Here's the description I was given direct from Chrysler:

"As to what is different with the upgraded module, all I can advise is that it is new programming that allows the vehicle to remain in 4WD operation, while the input sensors are receiving massive amounts of conflicting information. The data conflict causes various safety systems to override other systems and the vehicle can lose 4WD operation."

This is correct. My 2012 is going in tomorrow for this software update. I've been waiting over a year (my 4WD failure was in March 2012). The regional field technician is coming to town himself to install it, it has not been released through a TSB or made generally available to the local service departments yet.

So lets say I call a dealer, what would I ask to get done without them responding to me stating there is no such "fix"?

Is there ## or something for the fix?

I will post anything I can find out after I see them tomorrow. I get the feeling this is being done as a special circumstance because of the amount of time I've been waiting and the relationship I've established with my service manager (and his relationship with the regional guys). My impression is that he's been putting pressure on them to keep his customers happy and they finally gave in and are letting him have it a little earlier than the general public. Up until last week I had just been getting the same story "they have a fix, it's in testing, it needs to go through approval, it will be ready any day".

And they are ready to complete the final stages of testing ... On your test vehicle.

Hope all goes as planned.

Re: STUCK IN SAND with 4WD malfunction

A lot of us have been "testing" this fix here in Australia for some time now. And they've been promising the official TSB "any day now" for just as long.

I'm not sure of your situation in USA, but down here our dealers are not owned by Chrysler/Jeep. Almost everyone here who had tried to get the update directly through their dealer has failed. We have had to go directly to Chrysler customer relations to get the update arranged.

I hear ya. I volunteered to let them use my vehicle to help reproduce the problem a year ago and I am happy to volunteer to test it if it means I can get back on the beach this Spring while the fishin is good.

Yes I've had it applied. I also had the serv 4wd error occur after having the fix applied and can confirm that it kept power going to all 4 wheels. So the fix definitely works.

There is still no TSB to resolve this issue, so I very much doubt that it is fixed in your Trailhawk. Keep it in 4lo and you will maintain 4wd. Better still, contact Chrysler and get the temporary update applied.
