Re: Sun Visor Recall...AGAIN?

Given the poor work that was done on my TIPM recall work, I think that I will be ignoring this recall. A recall for a recall (yes, they did the original sun visor work, and left finger prints on the headliner): for which parts will not be available for a while: nice program management skills, FCA.

At this point, I believe that I will have to be convinced to take my Jeep to the dealer again.

Re: Sun Visor Recall...AGAIN?

They are required by law to issue a recall within a certain time frame after the defect is reported. This has no bearing on the R&D time + manufacture and distribution of the repair parts.

The question is, how could I permanently and safely insulate the cut wires in the headliner? I was thinking I would separate the wires and put crimp caps on each side (positive and negative). I could use a similar glue that they used for the TIPM splices, if I can find it. It should be able to take the heat of the sun. Anyone done something similar?

Or even better, does anyone know where the upstream connection to these wires reside? I can cut it there or just pull them out.
I'm thinking the same thing. They would have to be disconnected before they go into the headliner though. It would be nice to find a plug under the dash that could be disconnected, but I doubt it since there is so much stuff in the ceiling (lights, garage opener, liftgate button, etc).

I thought the short was caused by the metal mounting screws on the visor stalk itself. I was talking about cutting the wire before it enters the visor. Other than losing the caps, how could the headliner rub enough short the wires? Just making sure I'm not missing something.

Re: Sun Visor Recall...AGAIN?

Actually, cutting the wires should not be necessary; the visor has a connector that plugs into the wiring connector, as shown on page 8 and page 11 of the P36 recall guide:

http://wk2jeeps.com/tsb/rc_P3614.pdf

It looks like I could just unplug the visors and wrap the incoming connector to the wiring harness.

Re: Sun Visor Recall...AGAIN?

While at the dealer yesterday for a couple other issues, they mentioned the sunvisor recall that I haven't had done yet. I stated that Jeep is coming out with another recall for the same recall. They said, true, might as well wait. I said by the time they get it correct, I'll be onto some other non-chrysler vehicle.

Looks like a lot of work do unplug it If I did that I would never plug it in again!

Re: Sun Visor Recall...AGAIN?

So did we ever figure out why the 2014s were not included in this redo of sun visor burst into flames mess? I mean I am happy not to have them rip down my headliner again but I also don't want my jeep to burn up in my garage

Pure conjecture, but might have to do with the length of the pigtail? Thought i remembered reading in the instructions that there were 2 different lengths.

Re: Sun Visor Recall...AGAIN?

Update-
Had the rig in the shop to replace the leaking power steering rack and get the trans oil changed. The service rep called me to say it would be a day or two till the part came in but they had the material to complete the visor recall recall. They knocked it out while waiting for the rack to come in. Pretty happy with the finished product. Hard to tell the difference between the first fix and this one but I'm going from memory on the old parts.
Anyway, the ceiling is clean and no rattles or squeaks. There were some finger prints on the windshield though. Lol.

Sun Visor Recall...AGAIN?

I got this recall in the mail today for the 2012 that I traded in last November. I sent Chrysler their completed card 6 months ago telling them when and where the Jeep was traded to. Idiots. The recalls and bad rear shocks are some of the reasons I got rid of it.
