Re: Surging/shuddering between 40-60mph in 5.7l

It just isn't HEMI's. This happens on other engines including my 3.7

I just think its an F up from Chyrsler's tuning.

What's a driveshaft balancer?

I thought it was a machine they use for refurbishing old driveshafts.

Re: Surging/shuddering between 40-60mph in 5.7l

All,
I have the same issue with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7 L V8. I have 900 miles on the vehicle, and it's really starting to bother me. I have an appointment with a local dealership tomorrow, and wanted to know if any of the TSBs have worked. The TSB I've attached a link to seems to hit the issue on the head of the nail. Does anyone know if the TSB (21-004-10 REV.A) issued August 12,2010 fix the issues? Check the link below -

Thanks,

Re: Surging/shuddering between 40-60mph in 5.7l

Same problem on my 05 model. It was a second hand model with 65k Km, I have always noticed this problem, I hate this problem. Here in Italy there are almost no HEMIs so the technicians at the garage know nothing about this model. The chief technician at the garage was very surprised for this behaviour, he thought it was a misfire problem and suggested to change the injectors, however as the car has bifuel (LPG) and the problem is exactly the same with LPG, he tested the spark-plugs (changed recently), cleaned the throttle body, changed the EGR valve, however none of this attempts changed the behaviour.

I hate this, I believe a 50,000$ car shouldn't have this flaw, simply unacceptable, and I'm sure that this flaw is by design, as Daniele states.

BTW this flaw is enhanced by HEMIs suspension system, because I have noticed that when cruising on the highway any tiny imperfection on the road's surface makes the car vibrate in a very similar way; that is when the engine/transmission stutters, the whole car will "micro-vibrate".

Probably most of the owners won't feel this, but I'm highly obsessive and I suffer from this.

Re: Surging/shuddering between 40-60mph in 5.7l

Yes. I just read all 4 pages of this thread. Our 14 Jeep started doing it 1000 or 2000 miles into it as well. This has the 8 speed unit and it does it at around 60mph in 8th gear. I can paddle shift it to 7th and it goes away. Almost like the last gear is too low of an rpm for the motor at that speed. Dealer is no help, they always make me feel like I am making stuff up.

If it was a driveshaft balance issue, wouldn't it do it all the time? The weird thing is it does it randomly.

I can not believe this has not been solved yet.
