This is ridiculous. Key fob --auto unlocking

Have had my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland V8 for just over a year now.

Don't remember when this started but the locks unlock as I sit about 2' from the left rear wheel when it's in the garage. Yes, the fob was in my pocket but I was sure the unlock button was not being pressed inward.

Lately, it's gotten worse. So, I placed the fob on the table next to me. It's lying there all by itself. And, yes, the locks still occasionally unlock.

What can cause that?

Dan

Sounds like the button plastic/rubber could be worn. Did you take it apart and check the other side of the button?

Last time I looked on ebay for replacement housing it was less than $10.
Assuming this started the day after your bumper to bumper warranty expired?

I took both of the fobs apart to replace the battery right after I bought it. Didn't notice any wear.

Had forgotten about the warranty. I'll check that out.

Thanks,

Dan

Happens to mine if I'm close to the passenger side walking past the car with the fob in my pocket. I'm guessing the sensor on the door handle or water retention has got in there some how. Just disable the keyless entry and do the old fashion way.

Disabling an awesome feature isn't really an acceptable answer IMHO, especially considering how new the vehicle is.

Should be warranty repair?

Well, I did take it through an automatic car wash(please, no rocks) a week ago but this has been happening since I got it so I'm having a hard time believing water could be the cause.

Or try to disable & then turn back on.
Maybe this will reset it.

Re: This is ridiculous. Key fob --auto unlocking

I've also had this issue since the day I bought it. Originally I thought it was some kind of auto unlock feature, that if you stand close to the vehicle it automatically unlocks but I don't think it's supposed to do that. It doesn't happen all the time but whenever I lock the vehicle I always double check to make sure it stays locked. Also happens if key fob is in my pocket when I'm washing the Jeep. Very odd.....

Well, I'm feeling stupid. I don't know how to do that on my 2013.

Re: This is ridiculous. Key fob --auto unlocking

Same thing on my 2014. I keep the keys hanging in the house just inside the door to the garage. Sometimes when I'm out in the garage, the jeep will randomly unlock itself without me touching the fob. Makes zero sense. I only noticed it recently since I moved into a new house where the keys are kept close to the car.

Mines done it for years now and I did raise it with jeep.

It just never happens when they've got the car. They said if it happens while they have it, they will take apart the door trim to check the wiring before rma the sensor - stuff that. That would take weeks and a few visits.

Mines 2012, old now and over the feature. Software driven crap, something's likely to fail.

See the guy above, 2014 model and still has the unlock bug.
