Ticking from dash

I've got a sound which I'd call intermittent but it seems to be there more than not. It sounds like a fan or bicycle spoke with a card in it from the dash. I don't hear it from outside. It's there regardless of the fan being on or off or what temp it is set to. When I shut the vehicle you can hear it slow to a stop, so I know it's rotational. This is on a 2014 Laredo E 4x4. I know it needs to go to the dealer but I'm traveling for work and just can't get there probably until January but the sound is driving me crazy. It's got 15,400 miles on it. Not sure how long it's been doing this since I bought it CPO with 14,200 miles on it. I've searched TSB's but I can't seem to find anything on this.

Re: Ticking from dash

That's good to know as mine makes some strange noises now and again. I do think my blower unit is going bad again, but that's another story. The sound that I often hear is a whirling noise, so that must be the dvr player. I'll eject the CD out of that as I almost never use it. Hopefully your comment helped others that just haven't posted this observation.

Re: Ticking from dash

It seems to not happen if I shut off hvac before turning the car off. When I restart the car it won't come back. If I shut the car and leave it on, it's there when I return. Really frustrating.

Re: Ticking from dash

its the actuator for the blend doors (HVAC) had to change one on the weekend, driver side was broke not much room under dash ,you have to make homemade wrench with torx , just google (jeep no heat on passenger side blend doors) that's how I found how to do repair

Re: Ticking from dash

This is why I dread my extended contract expiring. Don't mind service stuff, but hate tearing things apart in the dash and any electrical stuff. So easy to make something else worse off. Replacing HVAC stuff for the third time, but that hundred dollar bill is annoying but less than 3 hours of frustration. 7 months left on the extended service plus the left head going til 100K miles.

Your fan comes on automatically when you turn the HVAC on, check for tape or debris hanging from the fan.

I had something make this sound on my 2014 Summit. It was very hard to localize the sound.

It turned out that, for some reason, when the lateral passenger side vent was in the fully closed position it would make this noise. I turned up the airflow a very small amount and the noise stopped.

That bothered me on principle, but not as much as service appointments bother me, so now I just let a little air flow on the passenger side.

Re: Ticking from dash

It's at the dealer now. They did an update on the uconnect and he said an update to the HVAC system. He can't find any noise. I told them to keep it over night and I'll be there in the AM to start it up and see if I hear it. To their credit I didn't hear it yesterday but I did hear it this morning. My fault for not making the service advisor come out to the car w/ me.

Re: Ticking from dash

It is very frustrating. Tonight my dash console made one of the very infrequent noises, that sounds like a tire or gas cylinder deflating. I stopped the HVAC immediately but still there though fading. Off with the infotainment unit, no difference, but when turned back on the hissing got louder for a few seconds, but then was gone. It's like the thing is possessed from time to time.

Nothing seems to act bad at the dealer but you would think a code error would pop up. Sadly I won't know until I take it to a dealer and hope the very rare occasion happens. I've tried to record the noise with a phone, but I'm always too late. I should turn the mute button off my dash camera, but then they word here all the four letter bombs I start dropping on a Jeep when this stuff happens.

Just aggravating.
