Re: TIPM Recall

This thread continues to gain momentum, as I'm sure it will until the recall is announced (should that ever occur).

I'm thinking we should put together a solid DIY as well as compile all the symptoms we've had (along with videos, etc) so that users can self-diagnose easier and decide whether they'll do it on their own or take it to the dealer. Obviously warranty plays a role here. I was out of warranty and got dinged $700 so a solid DIY would have made it a no-brainer.

I could draft up a wiring diagram, but I'd just draw it out with different colored felts.. that's not super tech or pretty. Does anyone have a program that could make a step by step DIY look pretty, incorporating all of the wiring, part numbers, sourcing, etc? Then use Adobe Illustrator to pull the useful content from the Star Case and make it a single comprehensive document?

I see value in this... it's one of the bigger topics on this forum and as vehicles get higher in mileage, so will the number of people needing support.

Sounds like you're saying that adding the external relay has created more issues. Perhaps your install was incorrect or diagnosis was incorrect, thus the need for a DIY.

Re: TIPM Recall

Has anyone else had their TIPM replaced with the new kit, part number 68244852AA and still had starting issues? Mine was replaced a couple weeks ago and the day I picked it up it still had the problem. It's been sitting at the dealership almost 2 weeks and they don't know what to do...

Yes same thing happened to my 2013. My dealer replaced the TIPM, WIN module, and alternator. As I write this I'm at the dealer again with the same issue after having my truck back for 1 week

Dealer fixed my starting issues with the fuel pump relay. Works exactly the same as it did before the issue. Charged me $165... I'll get the refund when the recall comes available.

No! , I said that the relay was added and Works fine , but one time ( only 1 )present same condition - Cranking with no start , it has not repited ones more .

Now with the Winter this fail will be notice more frecuently in USA and make more warranty and no warranty claims , I hope that will help to have the recall or at least a warranty fix for the ones that have the issue.

Re: TIPM Recall

mine has done this on and off since we got it 2 years ago, then twice in 2 days, dealer replaced the battery. That roadside assistance is handy right now!

If bits are on back order, this could end up a long drawn out pita.

Our 2011 stranded my wife last night. (it's her vehicle) I had the relay installed today. I requested they replace the module and the dealer told me it wouldn't fix the problem since the fuel pump is overloading the module and it will overload the new module too. The relay bypass is the only way(?) to insure it won't continue to happen. Cross my fingers...

He said they have installed 12 relays in the past two weeks - mine was one of three today.

On the frustrating side, I have Max Care and had to pay the $100 deductible and will have to request reimbursement from Chrysler once the recall is formal - he didn't have the recall in the system yet even though I had the recall number.

We'll go back to a Ford next time. I know they have issues also, but not as many as we've had with the WK2. Sure the Jeep is more capable off road, but the two times we've really had to use 4wd, we received Service 4WD message. The dealer has replaced modules and reflashed computers. I'm just hoping we don't really need 4WD again this winter. I just want a reliable vehicle...

2011 GC with only 20k started to have trouble starting. Within 2 weeks it was really a problem. I drove it to my dealer on 10/17 and they did the work around as warranty/recall work prior to the recall being "official." Seems to work, however, I would have preferred a new module. Cost to me $0.

Hope it works. Thanks.

Re: TIPM Recall

^You did well Pattie, despite having Maxcare, I had to pay for the $480 short term workaround until recall is issued. Fun stuff.
