Re: TIPM Recall

Thought I would share a Canadian experience. I received the P54 Fuel Pump Relay TIPM recall in late November in the mail, right around the time my 2011 started failing to start up. I didn't take action on it for December but by January it would take me at least 8 tries to get it to start, especially after a cold night. Usually I would have to keep pressing the start button without my foot on the brake until I could hear the fuel pump click on, then press the brake and push the start button. Called the dealer yesterday, they got me in today and did the external relay fix. Looks fairly clean like XJ31's picture. They also did the P36 Sun Visor wiring (which I didnt ask for) and of course they left some dirty hand prints on the headliner. So far so good, Jeep seems to start right up and drives well.

Re: TIPM Recall

I would like to share my experience with the board.

I figured that I could contribute a bit, as I do not contribute much to this board.

I brought my jeep in for service for an unrelated air-suspension issue and had them put the external relay in for this recall. They also did the brake booster work, as well as the sun visor repair.

Holy crap. I am kind of wishing that I did not have them "service" this issue because the external relay consists of a hodge-podge of wires that are with some crappy wire looms and electrical tape and an OMRON relay connected via chrismas tree to the frame under the hood.

I can snap a picture of the work and post this evening, which I will likely re-sort in the future, because this "fix" looks like it was literally thrown in the direction of the problem.

To me, this work looks like what happens when someone doesn't give a rip about the finished product -- because they will never see it again.

I do not have the time to take this car back (or, rather, my time is more valuable working or on the road), as it will cost me an hour each way - so I will look at re-sorting this mess. Geez. Have some pride in your work!

Re: TIPM Recall

After waiting for parts with none in sight from my dealer, I called a different dealer who had parts for all three recalls on my vehicle in stock (brake booster, sun visor, and TIPM). They did all three in under two hours (multiple techs), and did a good job. The external fuel pump relay was done with the Mopar repair kit and looks good. I guess the quality of work depends on the dealer (or tech).

I hope mine looks like rich mac's and not yours, no offense. I have his pictures printed out and am taking before pictures before it goes in next week.

Re: TIPM Recall

Here is where they mounted the relay on my vehicle. I don't understand why they mounted it on the PCM bracket instead of the vehicle core support specified in the service bulletin. Did anyone else on here have it mounted there? I intend to ask them about it when I go back to have the positive jump start terminal mounting bracket replaced that they broke during the relay install. I don't know why they were messing with that, the bulletin says to disconnect the negative terminal at the battery. I wish I could get a good look at the wiring job that they did, they haven't inspired a lot of confidence that they did that correctly.

Re: TIPM Recall

Canadian Experience 2 - a very good one.
I took my 2011 Overland 5.7 in for two recalls, P54 and P36, plus an oil service at my local dealer in Whitby, Ontario (Durham Dodge). I was very pleased with the work. The P54 wire harness installation looks professional and OEM. My visors and head liner are clean as if untouched and I got a pleasant surprise when I noticed my dash cam wires were rerouted under the headliner and A pilar liner. A very professional touch without me asking them.
Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Re: TIPM Recall

Mounting it up higher makes the relay quite a bit more accessible in the event the relay fails. The relay bracket isn't anything more than a bracket. It's only purpose is to support the relay. Mounting location or mounting angle doesn't effect performance at all.
There was quite a long wait for parts, so I opted to do mine myself. Actually mounted the relay behind the TIPM closer to the firewall. Just liked the way it looked there vs the original mounting location.

Re: TIPM Recall

I will be giving the service manager a chance to make this work right, but it will be on my terms ... or ... I will just repair it on my own.

Well I got a cross between the two. The wire runs on top, but behind the bracket that my BT Catch Can is attached to.
Overall happy with the finished product.
They did try to talk me into a throttle body cleaning for $154, and a new cabin filter (that I just replaced in the spring). They did get me for a $99 wheel alignment.

Re: TIPM RecallC

I started experiencing the TIPM symptoms yesterday. I have a 2012 GC and do not see a TIPM recall on the Jeep customer web site under my VIN.

Curiously, this all started about a week after having the alternator replaced (a recall but no new part available). Had to submit for reimbursement.

Cold snap in the north east contributing ?

What gives ? Why isn't the 2012 listed under P54 ?
