Re: TIPM Recall

That might be a separate problem. Maybe a coil pack? Best of my understanding the fuel pump is not variable volume so if it runs then fuel pressure should stay constant at all injectors.

Re: TIPM Recall

I got the TIPM recall notice last week as well. I have my Jeep scheduled for the other two recalls (P36 and P14?, brake booster and visor clip) for May 6th. I called the dealer asking if they can do the TIPM on the same day... but they said if parts are available, they will. But he said they may not have the parts and I will have to call again to schedule for TIPM fix.

Re: TIPM Recall

#2 misfire is usually a cracked left sided cylinder head. VERY common with '11 and '12 3.6L WK2's. You can drive the vehicle while waiting on the dealer appointment... but may notice some power loss. The MIL code will keep popping up within a day or two if you don't have it addressed. Chrysler has agreed to cover this specific repair for 100k miles... so no cost to you. Apparently Chrysler ran into a batch of 3.6L flawed casted heads.

It will take a few days to address. It's about a $2k repair if you had to pay out of pocket.

Do a Google search for tons of info about #2 misfire.

Re: TIPM Recall

Try this. Note that an oil change and filter is included. Took in Thursday morning and ready Friday night including alternator recall. No more misfires.

Re: TIPM Recall

Hey y'all. I have a lot of info, so bear with me. This is my first post and sadly may be the last day I have my 2012 GC Altitude, 40k miles. Fell in love with this vehicle as soon as I saw it, Stone white black leather interior, Hemi, so sweet. I did a lot of research (apparently not enough) and decided to buy it at the end of April 2015 from Carmax. Sales guy made me aware of the recall, however, I didn't read it carefully enough and for some reason I thought it had to to with the airbag. He really didn't seem to concerned about it either. Every vehicle I've ever owned has had at least one so I didn't read the fine print at the bottom of the page that said "Remedy not yet available". Bought the extended warranty (learned that lesson with a BMW).

First thing that was a wtf situation - having a duplicate key fob made for the Jeep was difficult. They had to try a couple of different vendors because the remote start wouldn't work....hmmmm.

Anyway, about a month or so into my shiny (new to me) vehicle, I was driving at highway speeds, accelerated to pass and got a flashing CEL...it flashed for a few seconds and went away. Man consensus (boyfriend + dad) = maybe just some crappy gas.... Didn't see it again until a couple of weeks later once again driving at highway speeds. CEL flashed after accelerating to pass but this time I had to stop quickly for a red light with CEL still flashing. Jeep was running so rough, I thought it would stall out. Pulled into an empty lot, turned the car off and back on again. Ran fine after that. Babied it from this point forward because I knew there was definitely something wrong. Later on, noticed ignition button not illuminated at night...hmmm.

Bought a code reader and app for my iPhone, code P0302 came up. (it's a 5.7, not the 6 cyl) My boyfriend is a car guy (has his own shop, sprint car driver, etc.) told me he would do a tune up in a few days, plugs, filters etc. and would also replace cyl 2 coil. No problem. (Recall still not in my mind, I know, dumb - should have brought it back to Carmax right then...) So I drove it like a granny ..sad to have a 5.7 and a stupid Yaris beats you off the line at a green.

July 4th, I got in the Jeep to go home (it was dark) and noticed there were lights in the door panel that had never illuminated before..weird..(or did I just not notice? is this thing playing games with my head?? ) I read upthread and noticed a poster a few months back with some of the same issues.

Two days ago, (patiently waiting until after this race weekend for my tune-up ) I went out to the garage to check to see if a particular song was on my HDD. Turned on accessory, and it looked as if no music was stored at all. Totally blank. I thought that was weird and decided to start the Jeep to see if my music list would pop up. Guess what? Cranked for what seemed like forever and never started....told boyfriend. He asked me if it was too late to bring the Jeep back for a refund.

Then I remembered that damn recall (I know it was my fault, I should have looked sooner and with more seriousness, but I was so excited about this Jeep and was more concerned about changing the spark plugs and maybe convincing my bf to install fresh air intake and headers ) I read the whole recall page Carmax gave me and started to research online and now I'm devastated. Seriously no remedy??

Sales guy at Carmax wasn't trying to hide anything regarding the recall (I hope)- I just think we both dropped the ball on this, HOWEVER, after asking a Chrysler rep today on the recall hotline why these vehicles are even allowed to be sold with this faulty TIPM, he said that a Chrysler dealership wouldn't have been allowed to sell the vehicle. I do not know if he was serious, or if it's true, just letting y'all know what he said to me. Not sure if I could have made him repeat himself. (Maybe that's why no local dealerships had any in stock???)

So these are my choices according to the local Jeep dealership, Carmax and Chrysler: 1)Trade it in, take a hit $$ or 2)deal with the bypass fix and all the other BS that could be wrong.

I love this Jeep, but I'm not sure that this bypass will address all the electrical issues. If I keep it and do the bypass and the other stuff takes months to manifest, I'm screwwwwed.....Do I want to deal with this? It's like an abusive relationship - do I want to be an enabler? Carmax manager told me to bring it in for an appraisal tomorrow. He seemed like he was sympathetic and would work with me getting into another vehicle. Totally bummed out

TIPM Recall

Forget the BS that the Chrysler rep gave you. The TIPM is faulty. Most of them start acting up around the 40k mark with the exact intermittent systems that you describe. Yours being a '12 with 40k is "right on the money" to start failing.

The fuel pump relay bypass recall won't fix all of the TIPM problems you're experiencing. That's definitely one of your problems... but the electrical issues stem from other relays failing in the TIPM. In short... you need a new TIPM. Chances are excellent the vehicle will drive and act like new once that happens. Definitely don't give up on it just yet! This is not a problem worth taking a drastic loss over.

Your Carmax aftermarket warranty probably covers it. The main problem is convincing Carmax that the TIPM needs replaced. It's a $1200 dealer repair. Carmax will probably come up with every excuse why it isn't a TIPM problem. You'll probably have to be fairly aggressive with them to get it replaced. Presenting them with lots of evidence of TIPM failures as described in these forums... as well as all over the net... is a good place to start.

Don't spend money on tune ups... spark plugs... headers... etc. That engine is built to run perfectly fine on basic maintenance until 100k.

I'm pretty sure the former owner of my '11 GC "gave up" and traded it cheap due to TIPM problems. I addressed the issues and now it's absolutely "rock solid" reliable. I love that thing...

Good luck!

Re: TIPM Recall

Took my Jeep in on Friday for the fuel pump relay (TIPM) recall. Was told by the Service Adviser that Chrysler still hasn't released the parts to complete the repair. I told him, "So what am I supposed to do in the meantime... pray that I don't crash when my power steering and brakes go out??!?" He kind of just shrugged his shoulders. Can't blame the guy; it's really not his problem. We should use the power of this forum (based on the number of members) and send a well-crafted letter to Chrysler demanding a solution to this problem.

Re: TIPM Recall

Chrysler has always played "hard ball" with this issue. They know all about it. They've been subjected to numerous petitions over it. Everything known to man has been "tried". You're pretty much at their mercy.

Chrysler has had TIPM issues dating back to the late 90's.

Best thing you can do is find another dealer that has the fuel pump relay actually in stock. Dealers located in rural areas are a good bet. It's worth driving a few extra miles to get this done. The fuel pump relays were in good supply last fall and early winter. You need to find a dealer that still has that stock available.

Re: TIPM Recall

Did an inquiry on recalls.mopar.com and it shows that the parts for the fuel pump relay are still unavailable... same thing Cerritos Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep told me (and they have a pretty huge service dept.) Does anyone know of a dealership in the Los Angeles "area" that is actually doing this repair? I've read that some of the members on this forum have been successful in getting this done but I'm running up against a brick wall.

Re: TIPM Recall

chrysler was just hit with a 110$M fine... For not taking recalls seriously, and not having recalls go well.. Sound familiar?

I love my Jeep, but will NEVER buy another one. Chrysler is soon to be no more, imho.

Re: TIPM Recall

Interesting. All of my cars (except the 70) have fuel pump relays. Normally a $12 item & easy to change. In this case Chrysler seems to have had wiring issues with the TIPM chassis hence the "bag on the side".

Suspect a fix would take a good electrician about a half hour to beef the traces but dealerships do not have those.

BTW according to my '12 OM the plugs (16 of them) in a Hemi should be changed at 64k miles, it is the Pentastar that goes 100K.
