Re: TIPM Recall

Had my tipm fuel pump relay installed about 6 months ago and for the last few months all the symptoms have returned. Stall after starting and stalling while driving which is scary, if that happens at the wrong time could be bad.
Taking it back to the dealer to look over the fix, think they'll charge me to look over a recall fix that didn't seem to work?

Re: TIPM Recall

Update to previous post. The dealer found a broken connector on the recall wiring that was installed and made the fix for free. We'll see how long it lasts...

Re: TIPM Recall

I hope it's something simple like that when I go back in the 28th

Re: TIPM Recall

Hello everyone! I'm a new member and read all the posts on this topic here before buying my 2012 jeep Laredo x. I saw the dealer had already installed the relay and was please with the nice wiring. If it stays acting up I'll at least know where to start troubleshooting and what to look for. Thank you all for your input and God bless!

Re: TIPM Recall

Well that lasted a long time. 12 days after the fixed recall fix it stalled while driving again. What a disappointment. I really am frustrated with the half a** fix with the TIPM. Makes me want to ditch this Jeep for something else.

Re: TIPM Recall

Never had an issue but CFJ performed the recall for me. In by 9am on Monday and out by 10:30 including wash. They seem to have some good mechanics^h^h^h technicians.

Re: TIPM Recall

I've never taken a vehicle to a dealer or repair shop in my life, always did my own repairs but thought I'd give it a try cause its free. I might just poke around there myself and see what I can figure out.

Re: TIPM Recall

Well, I thought I was in the clear. Jeep stalled out again this afternoon on my way to pick up my daughter from daycare. Scheduled to take it in again Tuesday after work. The service department has no idea what else to do except to check the wiring again (swap out the damn relay!). They suggested I call FCA recall support, so I spend a half our on the phone with them, mostly on hold while they called my dealer and had a private chat. They are supposed to run a full diagnostic and have it for a few days. I don't know what else to do.

Re: TIPM Recall

My jeep had the recall done in April of this year according to the mopar website and I have owned my grand Cherokee hemi for a month now. As a professional forklift technician I replace a lot of relays and they look the same as the ones failing on the tipm. I have no doubt the cause of many of our issues is plain and simple, crappy China made relays. I have complete confidence this recall fix will work for a while because usually the relays I replace on electric forklifts last years if the relays come out good but if I get a bad batch they fail within a few days or a week at most. I wrote all this to say that if you got the recall and are frustrated do two things in this order; #1) check the wiring to your new external relay and make sure it looks professional and will not come loose if you pull on it fairly hard. #2) if all wiring is okay then just replace the faulty relay until you get a good one(don't feel defeated if you do this even three times you will eventually get a good one, buy a backup). I myself have cut open these relays and have powered them up to see why they jam and don't make contact, plain and simple explanation is they consist of cheap plastic parts inside that do not allow the contact arms to move as smoothly as they should and jam intermittently. I hope this helps you all, luckily my jeep has not failed once yet and I'm going to order some spare relays to keep in the glove just in case. God bless y'all!

Re: TIPM Recall

I got a letter back in May about the TIPM recall, but the letter said the part was unavailable. I got another notice in August stating the part was now available and to contact my dealer for the repair. My 2012 GC has 56K and has never stalled on me or had a problem starting. With the reports of GCs having stalling issues AFTER the TIPM has been fixed/bypassed, I'm wondering if I should even go through with the recall. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Re: TIPM Recall

You know what bdjones, as a technician I have found that out the hard way and if your tipm is working well it could very well work longer than a new replacement. I would say that's a good strategy, the only positive note to the relay repair is that if it goes bad you can easily Replace it with a spare. Either way good luck to you and hopefully you never experience the issues others have.

I would look into how long a recall is valid. If you can take a vehicle in a few years after the recall is issued and still get the recall performed for free I would wait. Keep in mind after reading about this it seems like when, not if the TIPM will crap out.
