Re: TIPM Recall

Thanks ViaDeLaredo I will go that route. I'll post my results, but, it may take months to confirm that fix because the stalling is so intermittent.

Re: TIPM Recall

I was nervous but have had no issues since our recall was completed about a month ago. If it is just a relay issue, why not replace the relay inside the TIPM? Why the external wiring harness?

I don't remember off the top of my head but I believe the answer is buried in this 27 page topic.

Angry Re: TIPM Recall

Well I have my GC in on the 28th as I mentioned. They said they found a loose wire and fixed it. This past weekend my Jeep stalled more than ever. On one restart it stalled again! What is that 800#?

Re: TIPM Recall

That's a great question birchy boy, you actually can replace the relay in the tipm but you need to have some really good soldering skills since the relay is soldered in. I found a video on you tube of a guy doing it and it's beyond my skills, if you heat up the board too much you could damage it and then nothing will ever work... Lol.

Re: TIPM Recall

The only thing I can say buckeye is that the quality of the repair depends on the experience of the technician. If your wiring was done well then it's a faulty relay issue and all you need to do is install a new relay which you can easily do if you already have the recal done. Check out YouTube you will get a visual of where it is and you can cross reference the part# online or at your local parts store.

Unfortunately your experiencing the pitfalls of Chryslers cheap & easy(for them), cut, hack, & graft failed internal fuel pump relay TIPM "fix". I did predict this was going to be an issue with less than competent, local crack Jeep service techs doing the work as it's never a good idea to hack into the main wiring harness of any modern computer controlled vehicle.

You should have taken my advise and insisted on a brand new redesigned TIPM module back in March!

Reread my reply to you in post #250 of this thread!

Do you see why now? You were warned!

Is there a chance or are there examples of dealers actually doing this?

One of the local dealers replaced mine under warrantee at my insistence. That was way back in March of this year, before the 2012's but after the 2011's were recalled for Chryslers cheap cut, hack, and graft "fix". If you reread my posts in this thread you can read all about it.

I've been saying that for over a month, but little old me, I'm just a research engineer. I don't know anything about how things work. Apparently changing the internal relay is harder than it seems. I want them to change the shitty external relay they put in last March that is also failing. It must take at least 24 hours to swap a relay because they had my jeep all day yesterday and didn't call me.
