Re: TIPM Recall

Called into the service department this afternoon. Guy says he's been driving around in my jeep and can't replicate the engine stall. Says he saw no codes. Doesn't know what else to do for me. I said it's happened 10 times since March, you can't just make it happen. I at least convinced him to swap the relay, seriously, it took a conversation of deductive reasoning to get him to pull the relay they installed back in March and put in a new one. Said, no offense but I hope I only see you for oil changes from now on. I'm going to update FCA tomorrow and go from there.
All digits crossed that this works now.

I do want to say that my service guys are good people, this recall thing is frustrating all of us. They don't know anymore to do than we do.

Re: TIPM Recall

My jeep just shut off again on the road today. FML.
Just got the case escalated with FCA/Jeep customer service, guys is supposed to call me Monday. They have me starting to believe that it isn't the TIPM that's making my car shut off, but it's the exact same thing that was happening before the relay patch was installed, and the exact symptoms of why the recall was issued in the first place. This is killing me.

Re: TIPM Recall

Busted. Finally got video of the engine stall. This is the third stall since I got the Jeep back from having the relay replaced. Case initiated with FCA/Chrysler and it's going back to the shop Monday morning. At least this time I get a loaner car until they figure out what to do.

Bonus points if you can pick that song.

Re: TIPM Recall

Wow that's pretty bad, you're dealer needs to throw in a new tipm since the patch did not work. Does it normally happen when driving for over half an hour or is it completely random?

Re: TIPM Recall

It almost always happens within the first 10 minutes of driving, and only if I get going at highway speed shortly after starting the vehicle and come to a stoplight. I have to hop on a bypass US highway to get my girl from daycare and it happens about every other day at this same stoplight. Car goes in the shop tomorrow, and I sent a message to my Case Manager with this same video. I'm just happy I finally caught it because my service guy has not been able to replicate it and I think he thinks I'm crazy.

Re: TIPM Recall

If your service dept. has some experienced guys they'll know this definitely happens. It's either an open in one of the wires or a faulty computer/relay due to poorly made parts. Let's us know how it turns out it will definitely help others in the future. It's a shame companies are making cheaper and flimsier but more expensive parts, I heard in the old days cars were for life.

Re: TIPM Recall

Just got off the phone with the 800 help line. What a joke! My car has had this on going issue for a long time. They did not have my service record of a month ago to try and fix the recall "repair" done in August. So in their mind the car is fixed. Yes, I said that right it is fixed. They won't even pay for a rental to keep the Jeep. So now I leave a message for my service guy. That is a joy in its self because he never returns a voice mail.

Re: TIPM Recall

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Mine has been the opposite. They did direct me to the Jeep customer services and I was escalated to a Case Manager, so maybe asking for that direction may help. I was very kind and concerned in my discussions, and I think that went a long way, although I did have to repeat my situation quite a few times as I spoke to new people.. Once I get a verdict and conclusion to this situation, I'll PM you my case number for you to reference.
I'm cruising around in a 2015 Chrysler 200 in the meantime, a dealer loaner. Not too bad.

Re: TIPM Recall

No no, not implying that you weren't! Damn internet and it's lack of tone or inflection. I just could feel myself getting super frustrated talking with people that I knew had to have heard of our situation before tell me that they hadn't, and had to take a second to dial it back if I wanted help. Just keep a log of what's going on, continue to notify your service department of the issue, and don't give up. I'll keep everybody posted of what happens with my JGC. We aren't the only two in America that are having issues! The Jeep specific CS number that called me yesterday is 1-800-763-8422
