Just brought it in to the dealer again to unscrew this problem, and it stalled-after-start right in front of them when they asked me to pull into the bay. For good measure, I didn't cycle through on/off/accessory before restarting, which makes the starter just click without catching until you turn it off. Turns some heads coming from a shiny new jeep. I'll let you know what they say... Has anybody else heard of the recall bypass of the faulty TIPM not working? I told them they need to just get that OEM TIPM out of there and put in the redesigned one... was that the right thing to say?

Thanks!

Yessss!!!! That the ONLY thing to say!

I posted just that in this thread months ago right about the time I warned everyone who owns a 2011~2013 WK2 that this issue will eventually come to haunt us all!

Re: TIPM Recall

Thinking of changing my crank sensor due to stalling and start up issues even after the TIPM recall. Anyone have pics/location of the sensor? Can I reach it myself fairly easily?
Thanks

Re: TIPM Recall

It's somewhere on the back drivers side of the engine. I'll check my Haynes manual tonight and post what I find.

Re: TIPM Recall

Haynes manual says its on the right rear of the block.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Jack up front of vehicle.
3. Disconnect connector to sensor.
4. Remove sensor mounting bolt and sensor.
5. Remove o-ring and inspect, replace if needed.
6. Put small amount of engine oil on o-ring then put in sensor.
7. Replace the rest in reverse order.

Re: TIPM Recall

I don't know haven't crawled under there to see how accessible it is. I'll take a look on the next oil change. If it can be reached, should be real easy.

Best of all, Chrysler covered the tab under warranty event though it's been expired for quite a while. Data recorder saw the crank sensor dropping out under deceleration and causing the engine to stall, the exact symptom of the fuel relay cutting out.
Correct me if I'm wrong but your Jeep would restart right away after stall.
I am going to change the crank sensor because it is a cheep repair but mine does not restart right away. I have to push the start button then push it again with my foot on the brake or it will just crank and crank without a start.
The reason I'm still leaning towards the crank sensor is my Jeep feels like it is surging lately and if I recall that is a symptom of a bad crank sensor.

Re: TIPM Recall

Update on my vehicle...

Finally got the fuel pump relay fix. Car behaves exactly the same. The "external" relay is an "Osram" (I think that's the brand) just like the one under the cover, but this one says Made in USA on it, unlike the original. Guess where that one is from...

Re: TIPM Recall

I just got a letter in the mail about this recall today. i have a 2012 and have had the stall-after-start problem happen many times over the last year or so, never knew what it was though. Dealer can't get me in until Feb 22nd.

I recently had my check engine light come on, it was code P0441 (evaporative emission system) and also my gas tank builds up pressure. like when i take the cap off to fill up and it just releases a bunch of pressure, and it take for ever to fill up, it wont let the gas flow in basically. must be something to do with the venting of the tank... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question Re: TIPM Recall

Has anyone (or anyone else) replaced the crank sensor previously mentioned??

Also, how hard was it to access or locate on Hemi engine, any pics?

If you had to pay for the sensor, how much $$$ was it??

Do you know the correct part # for 2012MY??

I am post-recall & still experiencing the "stalling while driving" symptom as well.

Since, I am fairly mechanically-inclined, I will attempt repair myself...if there are positive results from it & it's cheap enough.

TIA
