Re: TIPM Recall

Buckeye,

Did you get a chance to replace your sensor yet??

If so, did you have any issues finding or accessing it (i.e., moving starter or other parts to gain access)??

TIA

Re: TIPM Recall

I have not yet. Looks pretty easy. Looks like on YouTube some one did it on a hemi challenger and removed the starter. But I don't think we have to based on the description on the previous page.

Re: TIPM Recall

New here, thanks for the add! 2012 grand cherokee, I was about to install my new OEM trailer wiring harness, and noticed this little hack/contraption that was done. I stopped immideately before getting any deeper. Is this going to effect the wiring of the harness

Re: TIPM Recall

I had the P54 (NHTSA 14V-530) completed Sept 2014 no issues before or since.
I had the P36 (NHTSA 14V-391) completed Aug 2014 no issues before or since.
I had the P14 (NHTSA 14V-154) completed May 2014 no issues before or since.
I have one outstanding,R71 (NHTSA 15V-879) that's due to "no current fix" but have no issues.Reading all these problems people have had with the TIPM recall (P54) I regard myself as exceptionally lucky unlike some of you guys who have suffered thru it something fierce. My (P54) was the by-pass fix and as I noted,no issues before or since.
Gotta love the owners section at Jeep.com that keep these records,I figure it will be real helpful if I ever had to take it in with issues for already completed problems.
Big Thankyou for those who noted a problem with crank sensor, have noted that just in case!Dont want to chance fate, but it's good to know.

Re: TIPM Recall

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo X - 5.7L has started developing cold start issues in 2014, with only 31,000 miles.
Took it for repair at the local dealership (Jake Sweeney Tri County 85 W Kemper Rd, Cincinnati OH 45246), was told that it is a known electronic issue and that Chrysler have remotely flushed the TIPM 5 times.
Was surprised that I had to pay $109.89 for this service, which didn’t solve the issue. Was also very disappointed with this lack of reliability and accountability. If there is a known failure, I expected Chrysler to take ownership and fix such issue at no cost to the customer.
The next morning – same issue again, the car wouldn't start. Had to take it to the garage again. This time they told me that they fiddled with the fuse box, and that Chrysler has told them that it might be a fuel pump modules issue (estimated at $1,769 repair).

Following internet forum advice, in September 2014 I have called AR Speedometer in Tulsa, OK, spoke to Alan, and told him what was happening with my GC. He seemed confident their repair would cure the non-start issues. My cost of the repair service was $284 + $58.30 USPS.

After Chrysler have issued their TIPM recall, I contacted them for reimbursement of the $451.19 costs I have incurred. To my surprise Chrysler have disputed the postage costs and some of the dealer’s repair work (which didn’t repair anything) and only partially reimbursed my costs.
As a result of this bad experience I am very disappointed with the way both the Jake Sweeney dealership (Jake Sweeney Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM | New & Used Car Dealer | Cincinnati, OH) and Chrysler have dealt with this case, and I would never recommend to anybody buying anything from them.

Re: TIPM Recall

The recall came out very late in 2014... like Nov or Dec. It was a known problem during 2014 by dealerships... but not official. Can't really blame them for "trying" in that era. If you got some reimbursement from Chrysler... you did good.

The AR Speedometer - Tulsa reimbursement is a bit questionable. They take good care of the problem... but I wouldn't expect for them to cover it in full. If all you were out is shipping... then you did good. That's money well spent.

Sounds like you did pretty good if all this happened in '14.

**This issue was know to Chrysler at early as May of 2013 when they issued this Star case bulletin;

Chrysler Star Case # for this issue (#S13080000399, Release date 5/29/2013)

http://www.mediafire.com/download/oh...lpumprelay.pdf

**The P54 Recall for 2011 vehicles was released on Sept. 3rd of 2014;

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs...4V530-4400.pdf

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) announced a safety recall on all 2011 model year (WD/WK) Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee equipped with a 3.6L or 5.7L engine.
Some of the above vehicles may experience a failure in the electric fuel pump relay located within the Totally Integrated Power Module-7 (TIPM-7). A vehicle with a failed fuel pump relay may intermittently or permanently:
 not start.
 not start on the first attempt.
 not stay running upon startup.
 cause the engine to stall while driving.
 cause the electric fuel pump to remain energized after vehicle shutdown.
Chrysler will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all involved vehicles to install a standalone external electric fuel pump relay.

Note: this is an announcement. This recall has not yet been launched. I'm not sure at this point of timing and the affected vehicle list is not yet complete.
Recall Notification will be mailed to the customer's address on record.
Launched/outstanding recalls can be checked on-line using the VIN on the Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep brand Web sites through the "For Owners" page.
If it is determined that the customer's vehicle is included in the recall and repairs have already been completed at the customer's expense, the recall notification will direct customers on how to submit original receipts for reimbursement.

Not really sure why you were charged by your local Jeep Dealer $109.89 for a known issue, or why that wasn't reimbursed by Chrysler. What exactly did they do for $109.89 and what was the exact date of the service? Did you forget to bill Chrysler your costs to remove and reinstall the repaired TIPM after you got it back from AR Speedometer?? You should have billed at least an hour and a half (1 1/2) to two (2) hours for that!!

Re: TIPM Recall

Thank you for your reply.
I do not feel thankful for the partial reimbursement; actually I’m at the complete opposite side of the scale. I’ve expected a much more professional, honest, un-deceiving and not such petty behavior from a reputable company like Chrysler and the local dealer Jake Sweeney.

They should own to their mistakes, and provide FULL reimbursement for actual costs incurred and backed up by receipts.

Re: TIPM Recall

Thank you for your reply.

I have asked Chrysler for full reimbursement of actual costs, backed up by receipts. Not only that I didn’t ask for reimbursement for installation time, I also didn’t ask them for much more time spent online and on the phone researching the issue and discovering that they were not telling me the truth and trying to charge me for work which was not needed (replacing the fuel pumps).

I’ve expected a much more professional, honest, un-deceiving and not such petty behavior from a reputable company like Chrysler and the local dealer Jake Sweeney.

Re: TIPM Recall

I hope that someone at Jeep / Chrysler reads these comments and that they will take some corrective action.

Re: TIPM Recall

Your local dealer may have been dishonest at best or incompetent at worst not really sure which is the more accurate statement??

Don't hold your breath waiting for Chrysler to do the right thing!

They are a despicable penny pinching company, looking for the cheap and easy, (for them), fix. A complete crap car manufacturer, who always go to the lowest bidding parts suppliers regardless of quality or durability of those parts.... and that's being kind! They have completely dropped the ball on this issue to the detriment of all of us, their customers.

Everyone should have had the cheap, destined to fail faulty OEM TIPM's installed at the factory replaced with new TIPM assembles. Their cut and hack, grafted on, stand alone fuel pump relay recall is an unacceptable "fix" for this issue. Which is leading to more problems for those who had no other choice but to accept it! Complete B*LLSH*T!!

I hope all who have had to deal with this issue, (And that will be everyone with a 2011~2013 Grand Cherokee or Durango) remember that when it comes time to purchase a new vehicle!
