Re: TIPM Recall

So my dealer decided to take the round about way... a little ECU reflashing.. send me home, a then the relay bypass... but they decided since we're in Canada that it's a 2hr job, not a 1hr job! We apparently move a little slower

Re: TIPM Recall

2012 Overland 5.7L Hemi...... I just had my TIPM replaced under warrantee for this same issue. Mopar part # 68244870AA. This is not the same TIPM it came from the factory floor with. New upgraded part from a different supplier than the original failure prone TIPM modules.

This problem will happen to everyone who owns a 2011~ 2013 WK2 eventually.......... These TIPM's are all destined to have failed internal fuel pump relays. Chrysler is well aware of the problem but so far have only announced a safety recall for 2011 WK2's that bypasses the internal fuel pump relay with an external one. A complete BS hack "fix" if you ask me!

Re: TIPM Recall

I've read on other forums that it may be more than the relay issue. If you are out of warranty Jeep wants ~$1000.00. An alternative is to take it out and send it for repair. Here is a link to a site that will repair and warranty your TIPM for about $270.00USD.

What do you mean more than a relay issue? The problem is a relay issue....... the internal fuel pump relay in the TIPM is shorting intermittently which leads to a stall after start/no start issue, or a continually running fuel pump, and it will happen to all the TIPM's put in 2011~2012 Chrysler products including Durango's. The best fix is to have your faulty TIPM replaced with the new superseded Mopar TIPM just released several weeks ago.

The link you provided will fix a faulty TIPM and offers a one year warrantee that should be fully reimbursed by Chrysler after they launch the 2011 P54 TIPM recall. I'd rather buy a new redesigned Mopar TIPM & have it replaced and bill Chrysler whatever that comes too, for a better more reliable fix. If their paying go with the new redesigned OEM part!!

Re: TIPM Recall

2011 GC Limited showed first sign of bad TIPM yesterday. Quit while driving down road and had hard time starting. Purchased with 91k and currently has 94k. Looked at Mopar Owner Connect, it's had "electrical system" work done at 35k and 75k. Wonder if the TIPM was replaced both times with the old OEM one that keeps failing. Hopefully recall comes out soon.
Anybody have any more detailed directions with pics on how to do the bypass besides the one posted? I'll just do it myself if the problem gets worse and recall isn't out yet.

Re: TIPM Recall

This is what I've read on the problem:

“A defective TIPM can sometimes make it impossible to start your car. In addition, it can cause any of the following:

The fuel pump not turning off
The airbags not deploying OR deploying randomly
The engine stalling while driving
The horn going off at random times

In other words, having a vehicle with a faulty TIPM is like driving something possessed."

This P54 recall will be launched very soon and you damn well should get your money back! Your dealer should know this, the fact that they made you pay for it tells me you should find another dealer!!
I've been having the same problem for weeks. Took 6-10 tries to start then the fuel pump started staying on after the jeep was turned off. I just pulled the fuel pump relay fuse out when I got to my destination so the battery wouldn't die. The jeep dealer had no clue about the P54 recall either but said they would bypass the pump. They charged me 380 dollars to do it but took care of the brake booster and sun visor. I'm gonna save my invoice but how could the dealer, still, not know anything about the recall?

How could they not know about this widespread TIPM issue??

Easy....... they didn't know so they could charge you $380.00 to install the BS TIPM fuel pump bypass relay!!
Something that others on this forum have been paying more than a $100.00 dollars less to have done!

THATS HOW!

Re: TIPM Recall

I was waiting so I didn't have to pay for this

Re: TIPM Recall

So for this recall on the '11s are they going to do this external relay fix or are they going to give us a redesigned TIPM? Does anyone know? I understand the old TIPM can cause other problems and I don't think I will be satisfied with some half-assed patch to a badly designed module.....only to have the TIPM blow up something else later on that is not covered by this recall for "fuel pump" problems.
