Interestingly i still had to pay the deductible since i used my extended warranty and there is no official recall yet. Hoping to get that reimbursed once the recall is announced. My dealer had no knowledge of the recall!
It's not unusual for dealers to now know of the recall. While it's been "announced," it hasn't officially started yet. That's in another couple weeks or so. It may be a little bit yet before the service departments have all heard of it.

The service departments have been pretty busy, they aren't likely having every single person study every bit of news out of Chrysler corporate. Sure, they could do a better job of staying on top of things, but for whatever reason they seem to prefer to wait for the official channels to spread the word.

I wouldn't worry about the TIPM kit repair. Mine's been solid since it was done and it's been raining buckets for the last few days... if something was going to get wet and go wrong it would have by now. I have no worries about this fix.

Of course they didn't how else can they justify the money they charged you and your service contract provider! If they acknowledge the recall what they did would have be no charge for you!

Why would you allow them to hack into your main wiring harness if you bought and paid for an extended service contract? Isn't this issue exactly why one would purchase an extended service contract to begin with?

And who said "that's not the recommended" repair?? What extended service contract do you have? Is it a Chrysler service contract? Max Care? If you paid a deductible why wouldn't the faulty part have been replaced? If your steering rack leaks fluid would they rebuild it, or replace it with a new part? If your timing chain fails would they replace a bad or kinked link in it, or replace it entirely with a new part? If your brake calipers fail will they rebuild them, or replace them?

But this dealer is telling you that your TIPM failed (A widespread know issue for Chrysler!) and "the recommended repair" is to jump the internal fuel pump relay with an externally wired one that's compromises the integrity of your main wiring harness!

WHY WOULD YOU ACCEPT THAT! WHEN YOU HAVE A SERVICE CONTRACT!

Let me say this one more time, I really don't think most forum members are aware of the potential electrical issues and/or problems that eventually will occur after hacking into the main wiring harness of any modern computer controlled vehicle!

Mine has been totally solid as well, but I had no service contract and little choice but to take the fix. Having studied it pretty closely I am comfortable that the integrity of my harness is not compromised in any way.

That being said, if I had an extended contract I might go raise a little hell to get a new TIPM since it has worked for others.

Re: TIPM Recall

My 2011 Overland (~50k miles) has been stalling out and having start issues for over a year. I could live with the stalling issue by just making sure I was always tapping the gas. The no start issue has recently left me stranded a few times. Obviously there were never any problems for the technicians at the dealership. Last week I finally had my TIPM replaced by the dealer under my max care warranty. The invoice said TIPM kit 68244852AA. The second time I tried to start it after picking it up it started and immediately shut off... (I was so happy!!!) Took me 2 days to get it started to take back to the dealership. Maybe I just got another bad TIPM but so far the dealer has no idea what to do. If I hadn't already paid $2500 for the max care lifetime warranty this POS would be gone!

Re: TIPM Recall

Thanks for the heads up folks, mine went dead in the driveway overnight and had to use manual key for entry. It could be jump started, but not trusting it until full replacement.

Re: TIPM Recall

^Wassup A4? Nice to see some of the old guard, despite the circumstances in this thread.

My service guys gave a similar story on this topic: no recall yet, no TIPM part available yet, workaround wiring relay harness only.

Also getting the brake booster and sunroof visor recall services done.

So far, this has been my only hiccup with the WK2 gen 1, so not that concerned presuming the service is done properly and the TIPM is replaced by Chryco at a later date as Raptor lays out.

Cheers.

Re: TIPM Recall

Just an FYI, I have a '11 Larerdo X with 35K miles, has had a few no start/cranking issues. Took it to the dealer and they said needs new $1300 TIPM. I mentioned the info found here that it was a known issue, Chrysler recall, etc etc. They offered to call Chrysler and see if they could work something out.
Came back with offer of a new TIPM with just a copay for tax etc of $200. Insists there is no recall as yet.
Seeing how its the whole new part and not the wiring 'fix' I gladly paid the $200 and have my vehicle back. If there is a recall I can still apply to be reimbursed. Happy with that.
Thanks for all the info on the forum.

Re: TIPM Recall

I had the symptoms of a bad TIPM fuel relay for the past three weeks. My 2012 Overland finally died a few days ago. I called Chrysler Canada and had to educate the person who took my call on the issue. After being put on hold for about 15 minutes, she came back on the line and regurgitated most of what I had just told her. I confirmed that Chrysler Canada is going to release a recall, and that it will only cover 2011 models. Whatever, I wasn't expecting much from them (based on past experience) and they didn't disappoint. I asked about availability of the service parts for the recall (relay, fuse) and she confirmed that there were none in Canada, but 6600 were on route from the supplier. A bit of Googling and a few phone calls and I had one shipped to me out of the US.

The Service Manager at my dealership (now ex-dealership) had quoted me $598 to do the work-around relay install. I'm a pretty decent mechanic (so had a pretty good idea of what the effort involved) but being a busy person thought if it was $100-200 it wouldn't be worth my time to do it myself. I just finished the install a few minutes ago - all is good.

If you're in a similar situation to me and have decent mechanical skills, this install is about 1.5 hrs to do. I can answer some questions if you get stuck...

BTW, the Omron relay is part# G8JN-1C6T-F-R-DC12 . It goes for about $4.50 on the few supplier websites I checked...

Good job on getting your 2012 going yourself while Chryslers useless dealer network did nothing for you. Your 2012 isn't going to fall under this recall anyway. Are you out of warrantee on your 2012 due to miles? My 2012 Overland's TIPM was replaced under warrantee with a new part, not really sure why they didn't do that for you?

I'm 30k on the wrong side of my warranty...

Jeep started instantly this am, and hasn't missed a beat all day.

Re: TIPM Recall

By any measure, I am a WK2 fanboy, but for the first time since buying one in Fall 2010, I'm wondering why. My techs are now saying they cannot recreate the no-start from the faulty TIPM, and therefore will not even cover their own short-term wiring workaround in the future even if I pay for it now.

Monkeys, I can afford and even do the wiring myself, but my frickin vehicle goes dead because of a larger issue. Both go seemingly unnoticed.

Meanwhile, Colorado Chrysler Jeep in Aurora still has a $10k "market adjustment" price increase handwritten on their window sticker on the 2014 SRT JGC in the showroom.

It all reminds me why I stayed away from Murican cars for decades.

Rant over, but dubious these service gaps will end.
