Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) announced a safety recall on all 2011 model year (WD/WK) Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee equipped with a 3.6L or 5.7L engine.
Some of the above vehicles may experience a failure in the electric fuel pump relay located within the Totally Integrated Power Module-7 (TIPM-7). A vehicle with a failed fuel pump relay may intermittently or permanently:
not start.
not start on the first attempt.
not stay running upon startup.
cause the engine to stall while driving.
cause the electric fuel pump to remain energized after vehicle shutdown.
Chrysler will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all involved vehicles to install a standalone external electric fuel pump relay.
Note: this is an announcement. This recall has not yet been launched. I'm not sure at this point of timing and the the affected vehicle list is not yet complete.
Recall Notification will be mailed to the customer's address on record. Launched/outstanding recalls can be checked on-line using the VIN on the Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep brand Web sites through the "For Owners" page.
If it is determined that the customer's vehicle is included in the recall and repairs have already been completed at the customer's expense, the recall notification will direct customers on how to submit original receipts for reimbursement.

Just got stranded at wallyyyyy world because of this no start issue . Wonder what they will tell me at the dealer tomorrow . Any clue to of I will have to shell out the $1200 for the tipm? Maybe this would help me out (crossing my fingers )
My wife drives a 2011 GC Overland. The odometer just turned 51K. It had been having hard start issues for the past 3 weeks. I did a little studying and discovered the TIPM fuel pump relay issues. The link below has a PDF that shows what kits to buy at the dealer and how to install them.
I installed the relay kit yesterday. Total cost was around $72 at my local dealer. I could have spent less by getting the relay kit elsewhere but I was in a hurry. The inline fuse I could have got a my local NAPA. It took me about 3 hours to install including the time to build the little relay harness. Seems to have fixed my issues. Time will tell for sure.
Chrysler has just made available to their dealer network a new TIPM Kit to address this issue;
The original TIPM part # 68089321AC which superceeded to an AD,AE,AF,AG part # are all no longer available.
A new Totally Integrated Power Module Kit (TIMP Kit) Mopar part # 68244870AA is about to hit the parts pipeline. MSRP for this new TIPM Kit is $869.00/Dealer Cost $646.00
It seems Chrysler is looking to take the cheap and easy way out on this P54 recall. They plan on doing the external fuel pump relay bypass, and not actually replacing the faulty TIPM, with it's faulty internal fuel pump relay with the new TIMP Module I listed above!!
Something is draining my battery when it sits overnight. Sometimes it will start right up and others I need to use the key rather than start button. This is causing issues with starting that sounds like this same issue talked about here. A brand new Die Hard AGM makes no difference and will also draw down over days. Using a trickle charger to hold charge up overnight is a temporary fix while I wait for the recall.
Is this the same issue? How much current draw is caused by the fuel pump not shutting off? Am I reading the Star Case right that they have had this fix for over a year? Thanks Chrysler!
Drop to a knee by your drivers side rear tire. If you hear a hum.. that's your battery draw culprit. Not sure I'd wait for the recall, who knows when that will come. By then your fuel pump and starter might be feeling the effects.
I'd like to see someone throw up photos of how the wires from the relay are connected at the TIPM. I'm not sure of some of the language in the Star Case (ie: cavity the wire, Cut circuit K31 engine fuel pump control, etc) and could use the reassurance when attempting this.
Apparently the dealer is doing the relay bypass on Wednesday. I'll post photos after so we can create a proper DIY.
No! If you had the TIPM replaced by an independent shop, after Chrysler launch's the P54 recall you should be able to submit your shop invoice to Chrysler for full reimbursement.
Interesting...... what part # TIPM did they replace your module with??
My parts guy said the new TIPM modules are made by a different manufacturer than the originals & the new TIPM modules have only hit the Chrysler parts pipeline very recently?
Blakese3p..... you didn't get a new TIPM module, it looks like from your invoice that they jumped the faulty internal fuel pump relay with an external one leaving your old TIPM in place.
The two other posters who paid ~ $1200 should have had their TIPM's REPLACED at that price.
60.00 for relay kit. I can build these kits for 5 bucks. I'm going to preventively install it this weekend. I'm out of warranty anyways. I'm not gonna wait for official recall. My luck it will be in winter when it goes out.
Does anyone have the manufacturer and model number for the relay they are using? If not, can you post a picture of the relay that the information might be read from? Thanks.

Your typical auto parts store will have them. Its a 4 pin relay but a 5 pin will work too. Get a hid relay harness for good measure as they can handle a good load.and the his relays come with the female harness too.
Yes but you have to make sure the harness is wired properly. No big deal if we had to change they are usually 5 pin but can be run as 4 pin. The work same way. They actuate on a 12v signal in this case the ignition pwr. Then the fuel pump in and fuel pump out wire then power from battery which acts as the supply to the fuel pump wires.
So my dealer decided to take the round about way... a little ECU reflashing.. send me home, a then the relay bypass... but they decided since we're in Canada that it's a 2hr job, not a 1hr job! We apparently move a little slower
2012 Overland 5.7L Hemi...... I just had my TIPM replaced under warrantee for this same issue. Mopar part # 68244870AA. This is not the same TIPM it came from the factory floor with. New upgraded part from a different supplier than the original failure prone TIPM modules.
This problem will happen to everyone who owns a 2011~ 2013 WK2 eventually.......... These TIPM's are all destined to have failed internal fuel pump relays. Chrysler is well aware of the problem but so far have only announced a safety recall for 2011 WK2's that bypasses the internal fuel pump relay with an external one. A complete BS hack "fix" if you ask me!
I've read on other forums that it may be more than the relay issue. If you are out of warranty Jeep wants ~$1000.00. An alternative is to take it out and send it for repair. Here is a link to a site that will repair and warranty your TIPM for about $270.00USD. TIPM Repair | arspeedometer.com

What do you mean more than a relay issue? The problem is a relay issue....... the internal fuel pump relay in the TIPM is shorting intermittently which leads to a stall after start/no start issue, or a continually running fuel pump, and it will happen to all the TIPM's put in 2011~2012 Chrysler products including Durango's. The best fix is to have your faulty TIPM replaced with the new superseded Mopar TIPM just released several weeks ago.
The link you provided will fix a faulty TIPM and offers a one year warrantee that should be fully reimbursed by Chrysler after they launch the 2011 P54 TIPM recall. I'd rather buy a new redesigned Mopar TIPM & have it replaced and bill Chrysler whatever that comes too, for a better more reliable fix. If their paying go with the new redesigned OEM part!!
2011 GC Limited showed first sign of bad TIPM yesterday. Quit while driving down road and had hard time starting. Purchased with 91k and currently has 94k. Looked at Mopar Owner Connect, it's had "electrical system" work done at 35k and 75k. Wonder if the TIPM was replaced both times with the old OEM one that keeps failing. Hopefully recall comes out soon.
Anybody have any more detailed directions with pics on how to do the bypass besides the one posted? I'll just do it myself if the problem gets worse and recall isn't out yet.
