Question Too High Incline, Truck goes into neutral? wont shift?

Driving the same road since I've had the Jeep and got to a hill with traffic light. Light turns green and the car rolls back. I press the gas and hear a weird sound and a message appears on the dash - something about too high of an incline?

The truck goes into neutral and I wasn't able to put it into drive or park. I had to literally let the truck roll back and I turned it off. I turned it back on and it was fine?

not sure why this happened since I'm at this traffic light every morning and never had this problem. I forget the exact message that appeared but it had to do with high incline?

Again, this was an actual message that appeared on the dash. No other lights or anything, just text.

Take a photo next time. Unless it is almost vertical I can't imagine an incline would make a difference. After all we are talking about Jeep and not Hond Civic...

First question: They have hills on Long Island?

Serious question: Any chance you were very low on fuel at the time?
