Trailer tow group

I HAVE A 2015 JGC limited Eco diesel. It has the trailer tow group IV option. Listed on the window sticker under that option it says rear load leveling suspension among other things.

What exactly does that mean? I don't have the ORA II option with the air bags. Just regular shocks. Wireman

Re: Trailer tow group

The rear shocks are heavy duty. I think there might be a picture in a discussion on here that discussed knocking noises coming from the rear due to problems with either the
rear shocks or the mounting bracket.

They are air shocks.

Re: Trailer tow group

CJ8Rockcrawler, I looked underneath at the shocks and they are regular shocks, no provision to pump up with air.

I do have the ORA I option but that only includes skid plates, full size spare, etc.

The ORA II option has the air bag suspension, which I DO NOT have. So I guess the designation of rear load leveling suspension listed in the tow package is nothing more than heavy duty shocks and maybe heavy duty springs.

Not exactly a honest description of what it really is, IMO. Wireman

Re: Trailer tow group

Same shocks that're on my '14. I dunno the specifics, but the general gist of it that I understood is when you load up the tail end, whether it be cargo or a trailer, the shocks pressurize to level off after it bounces once or twice when you start moving.

From WK2Jeeps - Load-leveling shocks are also available. These shocks react to payload levels and mechanically increase vehicle height when the vehicle has added rear payload. When payload is added to the vehicle, the shocks' gas pressure increases.

Re: Trailer tow group

These are self adjusting shocks. We had similar self adjusting shocks on our old Subaru Forester LL Bean. They worked well when we towed our Kendon motorcycle trailer.

Re: Trailer tow group

Thanks for the explanation. To be honest I never heard of this type of shock. Just air shocks, nitrogen pressurized, etc.
